Hi all.

Here's my first video, We And The Sri. I made it for my Video & Creativity class @ JFK University in Berkeley, CA.
It's a short documentary about the Sri Yantra (a sacred Hindu symbol) that my wife painted on our living room ceiling with the help of a dear friend.

We And The Sri from Winston Berger on Vimeo.

I may have gone a little heavy on the effects but I wanted to share my powerful experience of the symbol as a dynamic entity. I knew nothing about video before this class, but I used my knowledge of sound and synthesizers to create waves of pulsation, oscillation, noise, and shifting polarities. Many of the color effects and all of the light/dark cycles came from playing with exposures & filters on the camera.

After the visuals were done I somehow cranked out the music in a day, blending digital & acoustic, composed, improvised, and generative elements. I feel like I came into direct contact with the wisdom of the Sri Yantra when I realized that the beginning and ending music should be the same...everything flowed naturally after that.

BTW I used Sony Vegas Platinum 10 HD (consumer version), Reason/Record, VAZ Modular, my Arts & Luthierie acoustic, my Nikon point & shoot, and Zoom Q3 (video) and H4N (audio) recorders.

Cool video and beautiful painting. Smile A lot of effects, yes, but why not?
