I enjoy working with clock-based music and the Aries' gate/trigger logic supports this well.

The problem is, that each trigger (clock tick) retriggers the notes -- producing a reiterative effect (like the repitition of a mallet instrument). I built some new logic circuits (by modifying a Yusynth Logic Board) to pass the first trigger pulse after applying a gate and to pass no more triggers until the gate is released and restarted.

This track then, is my exploration of a musical idea that prompted me to build the new circuitry.

I like the idea of order emerging slowly from randomness and I had this idea to build a work with nothing more than a few disconnected notes. As the work progresses, and more notes are added, the density increases. At some point, the randomness morphs into a rhythmic pulse -- slowly enough that one may not identify an exact moment when this happens.

The tone is very simple -- two sine waves combined in a balanced-modulator, filtered through my recently-completed Yusynth Fixed Filter Bank, and shaped with a bell-like envelope.

Also, as a result of Darrell Burgan's excellent workshop on impulse responses I was able to intelligently use the Impulse processor that is included in Cubase 5 (Reverence). Nothing fancy -- just adds a nice spaciousness to the track.

The track is a little on the long side (13:39) -- then again, this approach to building a piece of music takes time.

Hope you enjoy this!
