Hi, I'm thinking about buying a Hagström 8-string bass, not to play as a standard bass, but to convert into a faux electric mandocello. The scale of this instrument is relatively short - short enough that I reckon it could do a job as a mandocello.
ANYWAY, as this is not a common solution I need to order custom sets, hence my call for help. A mandocello usually is tuned like a cello, albeit with octaves for the two lower courses: C - G - D - A.

I've checked several gauge calculators, but I get the feeling they don't cover such weird stuff all that well, so if anyone out there the has experience and knowledge to give me some good advice, I'd be much obliged. Cool

8 strings, what will you want next!

I would recommend shiny strings, that's about all I know.

What I will want next is two 12-string guitars, both acoustic and electric, THEN I want a Godin Glissentar! Smile
