Hi y'all
I'm really totally new to this site, but it has spurred a slumbering electronic interest I've had coming for some years.
Here's a picture of my first blinker and a electronic metronome I built.

Welcome. thats a good start. We all started with projects like that. you need any help with anything you have come to the right place. thats a nice old capacitor there. sorry but i have a weird obsession with caps.  |

Yeah mee too, the old parts have style.
I have loads of old components waiting to be used.
The 'only' hurdle when living in Northern Europe is that it's crazy hard to obtain any quality pots etc from stores, one have to buy them in the states or the east and the shipping time is rather hefty.
My next 'bigger' projects gonna be the Thomas Henry audio generator, if anyone have any experience or tips I'm all ears.  |

Another beginner project, a so called 'rain' sound generator.
It sounds like a half a broken APC.
All projects in this thread will be encased and soundsamples from all devices will be put out.
If there's any beginners out there, feel free to join in the chorus of clicking sound pulses.
Spam this thread with anything electronic that you've built and thats working (important). 
It's always nice to pratice the art of taking pictures of ones projects.
Everybody likes nice pictures.
In this thread it's also important to leave pictures of the 'other' side of your board so everybody can enjoy the various board types and how to work around them.

Clean work. Your obsession has just begun.
Style or not, using old capacitors is a chancey proposition in terms of performance, not to mention the volume of space occupied by a cap rated at 400 volts!

Definately is addictive.
True about the caps.
On bigger projects I will use newer parts with the appropriate values, I just got hellloads of old parts and no money so I have to use them for the training projects.
Yes my obsession has begun, and woow its nervewrecking to be missing knobs and pots. (and parts in general, but i guess its a part of the 'fun')
The only pots I have access to at the moment is the iirritating ones with a long plastic shaft, anybody have a tip about how to find knobs for them?
I guess its something about cutting them down and (glueing!!?) the knobs on?

Thanks for sharing your experiences and welcome to electro-music.com!
I always love to see what people are building/trying. Your work so far looks great, and good choice to start with bleeps and bloops. I find electronics and expecially electronics that make sound a great hobby. The learning curve might seem a little steep at first but once you get your first sounds going it can be very addictive and fun.

The lunetta subforum is an excellent place to start, plenty of very cool and easy projects there.

Thx for the tips, here's a little demo of my 'modded' apc, after I paired it with a simple amplifier running on the same rails it became a little noise maker.

But God have also given us 99% efficient combustion engines but we only use them for leisure activities (read formula 1) : ).
AND I might add that though there might be a Global warming, my country is experiencing a local cooldown with much colder winters and a lot of sludge. 
Greenland is getting the global warming but what use is it if the summer temperature rises from 4 to degrees 12 celsius  |

Hi 12410d,
Sorry, but modern internal combustion engines are only about 25 to 30% efficient, even highly tuned racing engines. The vast majority of the energy in a gallon of gas is wasted as heat.
And "Global Warming" is really just a term that has been picked up on. The concern is really about climate change. This includes wider temperature and weather extremes.
And I work for an electric car company, so I've studied a fair amount about this.
