Wacky Southern Current - Like The Wind Within The Hollow Tree
[NS021] No-Source Netlabel

[item image]

Mellow, instrumental, post rock. Wacky Southern Current's "Like The Wind Within The Hollow Tree" is neither wacky nor southern. Marco Cervellin of Italy plays most of the instruments himself creating a hushed, minimal, peaceful landscape of down tempo, acoustic music. From the electronic tinged opening track, "I Took a Journey" to the ambient feel of "Unterkircher", this album sways without ever straying too far. It is very much a cohesive unit. "Like The Wind Within The Hollow Tree" harkens similarities to Explosions In The Sky's quieter material, Album Leaf's early work, as well as netlabel musicians such as Cantaloup and Nic Bommarito. This is truly a beautiful suite of music for a quiet Sunday soundtrack.

I Took a Journey
Robinia
Painted Leaf
This Summer
Unterkircher
Ghost Pine Sonata
Encore

Wacky Southern Current - In a Realm of Uncertain Summer (2011)
[NS042] No-Source Netlabel

[item image]

Wacky Southern Current returns to No-Source for a new album of hauntingly beautiful instrumental music. “In a Realm of Uncertain Summer” sees Marco Cervellin find middle ground between instrumental soundtracks, acoustic moods, and post rock sensibilities. The title track kicks off the same vibe given by Air's “The Virgin Suicides” soundtrack. The instrumentation is top notch as apparent on “Eaten by Your Own Sun”. The slow progression of guitars and strings on “West of the Dam” slowly unfolds until the track "The Nearest Star" take over with a sound reminiscent of early Blue States or Grantby. “Naked Mountain Song” paints a picture of a lazy ride over hills and valleys with its bass line and soft electronic percussion work. “Dream Sequence” and “Eventide” bring the album to a quiet ending with gorgeous, beat less, nearly contemporary classical music. This is certainly another brilliant release from Wacky Southern Current and an increase in compositional intricacy from Marco Cervellin.

Wacky Southern Current - Argonautica (2013)

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

Marco Cervellin, the force behind Wacky Southern Current, returns with his third album on No-Source. Argonautica continues the trend of high quality instrumental albums from Marco. To give Wacky Southern Current one genre is to sell the music short. A wide range of influences fill up each release from Marco. Argonautica is no exception. This is a more guitar-centric album with Kraut influences, particularly on the track "We Are Argonauts." "French Radio" is a short burst of experimental soundscape, while "Blues in A" is an excellent seven minute jazz workout. Wacky Southern Current heads is new directions with such musicianship that it's hard to believe they haven't been there all along. Argonautica is: Marco Cervellin - guitars, bass, keyboards. Gianni "Ian" Garbo - guitars. Giacomo Gatti - drums

Wacky Southern Current - Today’s Embrace (oct 2014)

....The entire record flows in an unusual pattern and proves to be Wacky Southern Current’s ' most prominent effort to date, abounding with simple yet distinctive guitar rhythms (however drawn out) and approved by models, synth and keys with splashes of electronic elements together with the addition of saxophone, Wacky Southern Current’s have almost completely and gently stuffed the subtle instrumental ambience to whole new level. While previous releases by the band speaks for itself, still… we talking, experiencing a whole new game together with a strong sense of nostalgia and with an output focussing primarily on experimental lo-fi ambient. Staggering indeed!

“Today’s Embrace” ebb’s and flows in a surprisingly loveable way, to something close to poniarding atmospheres with its otherworldly enactment effects and drowsy pace, all of which, gathered and brought forth enticingly in a vocals(less) and instrumental package that hugely makes you want to re-visit the definition of sadness. The end result is a beat, a simple beat, a kick and a melody that eventually grows on you. Quick listening or part listening of the album is definitely NOT RECOMMENDED. “Today’s Embrace” is a new act that you have to listen from the beginning to the end, and once that done you will somehow set this album on repeat listen. I know, because that’s what exactly happened to me. A one word definition for this album, EXCEPTIONAL!
