Success at last Subject description: Moc OS X 10.6.5 and Nomad |
 |
|
I have finally, after severla years now of trying, been able to get a stab le connection between Nomad and my two Nord Modulars. It's AWESOME to have them back online again. Here's how I got it to work
1) update to OSX 10.6.5
2) remove Mandolane, or any other installed java midi "helper" files, using the appropirate Uninstaller.
3) Do NOT use a multiport interface to connect to the PC IN/Out ports on the NORD. Use a simple single port USB interface (with the latest drivers of course) Mine is an M-Audio MididMan. The multiport interfaces (or at least mine) generates a parse error exception, even though communication has been established. I believe that this is due to an extra port identifier packet in the MIDI stream of a multiport device.
4) make sure your interface is correctly intalled, and your NORD PC In/Out is connected to the in and out port of this interface using the Audio/MIDI Setup utility.
5) Restart your Mac.
6) Launch Nomad and make brand new synth connection to the single port interface.
7) Dance in delight as patches get effortlessly passed back and forth! |

Hope you don't mind, but I've made this thread sticky, so that others having similar problems will find the solution to their Nomad on OSX problems quickly

ok- tried this with my generic single port interface and didn't work. Also with my midisport 2x2.
wondering if it really is the interface?
Anyone else have any luck with this?
Is the nomad editor worth the price of a new interface?
ANY help on this would be appreciated- I'd like to know how many snow leopard people are running nomad successfully! |

Moody! You are giving me hope.
Did you do anything special to get it to work?
What's your secret? |

Nomay, have you tried a different USB connecting cable? _________________ ACHTUNG!

| yes- I've tried different midi cables, but it's always worth another shot. I was under the impression that no one was using Nomad on Snow Leopard. It seems that people are getting this to work, so I will go back and try to get this going. This forum is giving me hope! |

more experimentation tonight. different midi cables. same thing.
Question: I'm running the clavia editor successfully. What needs to be changed to run Nomad?
When I click on the orange diamond (next to the wrench)- I get this error (maybe someone knows how to read this?):

No more NM1 editor on OSX Lion and future?! Subject description: No more NM1 editor on OSX Lion and future?! |

Hi everybody,
i've been a nord modular G1/G2 user for long times and today after updating to Lion i realised that the Beta editor was not working anymore (PowerPC app not supported). I tried many times to run Nomad, but i always got this error message:

I followed all the advices about nomad on this forum but it is still not working.
I start to believe that my interface is the problem, M-Audio Midiman UNO USB, but apparently everybody runs it on Midiman 2x2 successfully (really similar to mine, same drivers...).
Does anybody managed to get Nomad working on OSX Lion?
What is the most compatible USB MIDI interface to use?!
I love my modular, really don't wanna sell it.... HELP please!!!
Thanks |

Made it work on OS X 10.8.2 |
 |
|
For what it's worth now, here's how I managed to make Nomad work here on Mac OS Mountain Lion (10.8.2) using a Edirol US-1MX, with only the 2 java lib files supplied on the Nomad .DMG.
The only thing I can say is that getting a single-port MIDI device with non-internal driver was the key. I had been trying to connect Nomad to my Modular for some time now with a cheap MIDI-to-USB adaptor with an internal driver
(such as this one http://www.amazon.com/USB-MIDI-Cable-Converter-Keyboard/dp/B003KXEDVQ/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1358785541&sr=1-6&keywords=midi+to+usb+adapter)
The one I was using was creating a virtual MIDI out port for some reason, which seems to confuse Nomad. Make sure you are using a MIDI device that creates a single MIDI I/O pair.
Also, those who cannot see the MIDI I/O option in the Connection Settings pane of their Modular should make sure they DO NOT have mmj.jar in their /Library/Java/Extensions, as this is what makes the pane show up empty (from my experience). |

So yeah problems getting nomad to work on OSX 10.8.2 / OSX 10.6.8 and Bootcamp Win7. Same timeout error [-1001]
I just picked up a Roland UM1 Mk2 that has allowed me to use this with the Final Clavia Editors on Snow Leopard and in Win7 / Bootcamp without problems.
However none of the solutions working for other people have worked for me yet. |
