How low is too low for main volume output? |
|
|
My main output has always been a lot quieter than the aux and headphone out which are both comparable to volume levels of other gear I own. Is there a general guideline for what level is normal vs what level requires fixing for the main output? _________________ http://recoilsun.bandcamp.com/ |

-10 dBV for consumer gear (RCA jacks), and I've most always seen +3 dBu for pro gear(XLR or balanced phone jacks)...

The most common nominal level for consumer audio equipment is -10 dBV, and the most common nominal level for professional equipment is 4 dBu. By convention, nominal levels are always written with an explicit sign symbol. Thus 4 dBu is written as +4 dBu.
Expressed in absolute terms, a signal at -10 dBV is equivalent to a sine wave signal with a peak amplitude of approximately 0.447 volts, or any general signal at 0.316 volts root mean square (VRMS). A signal at +4 dBu is equivalent to a sine wave signal with a peak amplitude of approximately 1.737 volts, or any general signal at approximately 1.228 VRMS.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that there are standard levels but what I'm asking is does the A6 conform to that standard and if not what should the output level of the main outputs be? I can't seem to find an actual figure in the manual and I know that the main output is considered quiet by typical standards and that it also gets quieter when it malfunctions. _________________ http://recoilsun.bandcamp.com/ |

with left volume on 100% there shouldn't be too much difference between the aux and main output |

Then maybe mine isn't working correctly. I need to turn the gain up on my mixer to get a decent signal from the main outs. I don't need any additional gain for the aux outs. I guess I need to do a side by side with the same patch and no effects turned on to be sure. _________________ http://recoilsun.bandcamp.com/ |
