Attention! We have a server problem!

Yes we do...

The server is stalling.. and effectively freezing.. The reason most of you haven´t really noticed yet is because I have mostly been able to restart the server. I think I have done that approx 16 times today. I have to go offline soon myself.. and if the server stalls i cannot do anything about that until I wake up.. uh.. sorry... I get back online.. Shocked

What's the problem?

Runaway processes? Lack of memory/memory-leaks/swapping?

I have no idea. This thing is in California. I have very limited remote access. If the box had been sitting in my lap I guess I would have figured it out. It seems it runs out of free sessions or something.. and ends up choking.. restart will bring it back. I am basically hoping Howard shows up here, sees what is wrong and fixes it after 5 minutes under the hood.

But he has planned on visiting some friends after picking up that G2turbo, and I kinda hopes he doesn´t show up here. He needs a vacation of sorts.

I hope all the members will be patient with us. It seems we cannot get this resolved before tomorrow or the day after. So for another 48 hours the server will go offline pretty often. I am sorry.

Yes, thanks to Mr 80 for keeping up limping along.

It seems we were overloading the server. When Apache received more requests than it could handle it shut down. I was skeptical but when we doubled the capacity of clients, things started working again. It's amazing the amount of traffic this site it generating.

If you ever need an extra server somewhere, once back in the states I will be able to dedicate an old desktop computer as a server for the board.

I can install Linux (if it's not already on there) and see no problem with helping out.

seems like upping the connections limit worked but if electro-music's version of php is lower than that it should definitely be upgraded. My host was going crazy because someone (most likely script kiddie) was sucking up all the resources.

I have another server for email and personal web sites and stuff and I so far haven't been able to get that upgrade to run on these servers. There is a fix you can put into lower versions to stop that hack and I've installed it here. That is on the agenda, for sure...
