Kees was somebody who was very good in masculine friendship, which meant when you met him again after some years he would pick up contact as you would have seen him just the day before.
To make the thing a little bit more lighter in the heart: next time we take the road from the hotel back home we will take the wrong turn, just like he did so many times...

This is very sad. When I met him at the first electro-music conference, I recall him being a warm, friendly, and playful man who was passionate about electronic music and the Nord Modular, especially. I certainly appreciated his contributions to the Nord Modular community and my deepest sympathy is with his friends and family. _________________ http://www.soundcloud.com/cebec |

This is very sad news indeed
I remember Kees well from Justin's NM list. Kees was an exceptionally original programmer. I was very inspired by his NM creativity. IMO, Kees' NM Jingle patches were up there with the early BBC RWW creations.
52? That's far too young to go. _________________ ACHTUNG!

I'm very sorry to hear this. Please pass on our condolences to his family.

And of course the famous "Stroopwafels" patch (however it is spelled).
After reading an article recently in the San Jose paper about a Dutch pastry store now selling Stroopwafels in this area, I couldn't help hearing this patch in my head the last few days. _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

This is really sad news. I always loved his talking patches. I got a chance to met Kees in person during the em modular event in 2007.
He was a kind and gentle man. Please send my condolences to his family and friends.
His voices will be missed.

The photo of the coffin of Kees van der Maarel with the NordModular on top, as it was said they only want to part together at the last moment...

I am shocked. This is realy sad. I was at the hospital here and he was ok. Laughing and joking. I met his mother there. My condolances. Thank you Wout for letting us know. I was strange enough looking pictures of him the other day and I will remember him as a very friendly and interested man. Sad news indeed. |

(O_o)..
My most sincere condolences...
Not sure if many of you would remember me but I used to be quite active on the old list serv (k.Lex Pattyrson was another one of my nom de plume).
Anyhow, this is an inauspicious first post but, though I only knew Kees through the digital divide, I was exposed to a beautiful side of him his mind. Through the lengths and breadth of his designs, I felt I touched something otherwise insubstantial and ethereal in Kees and I'm happy to say he left his mark. . |

Mr Pattyrson
That's a long time!
Indeed, Kees will be missed.
Kees is half American, or should I say, America is half Kees!
Kees would have loved the joke
Yankees is made out of the Dutch names Jan (Blue Hell) and Kees.
How is life?
Strange thing to ask in a thread like this...
Another joke Kees would laugh about.
But that's the Modular community for you.

(* Smiles at two old familiar "faces" *)
Hey Jan, hey Wout.. Looks like the whole list moved over here without telling me. Heh, it only took me 10 years to track you guys down. =)
On a more serious note, thank you for the kind words but even more so for honoring Kees in such a fitting manner. |

You probably missed the migration in the days the NM G2 came out.
