Really enjoyed your set last week under the moniker Dementia And Hope Trails. The music journeyed to interesting places. I'd have said hi if I knew you'd posted here.
As for the earlier question about the DC and Baltimore experimental scenes, I notice a lot of the same people go to noise/experimental shows in the DC area. I guess it's because after seeing each other at shows so much we eventually start to talk and then alert each other by word of mouth about shows at newer venues such as Hole In The Sky. Once in a while I see a crowd with a lot of unfamiliar faces and that always makes me happy. Jeff Surak (and whoever he drafts to assist him) runs the Sonic Circuits Festival and puts on a year-round Sonic Circuits Presents concert series in DC. cebec played at one of those and I've seen dewdrop_world at a couple too. Its great though that once in a while others will put on house shows or find spaces to put on shows like the aforementioned place as well as Paper Sun, Red Door, etc. I just heard that the next Avant Fairfax festival is coming up in March.
I guess in short, the scene in DC is dependent on individuals who take it upon themselves to organize shows. DC is notorious for having people who are shy and I admit I tend to be shy too. But like I said once I've seen someone like ten times at ten shows I'll probably have talked to that person by then.
As for Baltimore, my impression that the key to break in is to be a regular attendee of the Tuesday Night Crapshoot at Red Room. I've heard the vibe has changed though since the days when Neil Feather would invite just about anybody to come and jam at the Crapshoot - I can't say for sure because I haven't been there for a few years. _________________ VIRB site |
