Word is leaking out slowly -- The SuperCollider Book is finally in the MIT Press catalog! Available in March.

http://mitpress.mit.edu/catalog/item/default.asp?ttype=2&tid=12571

The relative lack of narrative documentation has been one of the biggest obstacles for people starting to learn SuperCollider. This should fill in a lot of the gaps.

Ask your library to order it Cool

MIT Press posted the cover on their site --

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

I can hardly wait to get my contributor's copy, but I dread to think how long book rate to China will take...

This may be the year, James! Nothing to pull me into SC like a bloody good book. Got my Pacarana back in January, and now with end of term a week away, I can finally start in on that. It'll get me over the Smalltalk hurdle. I need something other than Kyma for my students -- cash poor -- and SC seems like an excellent choice, based in no small part on the pieces you have posted here.

How's teaching? Constantly busy? Any time off coming?

Take care, Dale

You of all people?! Shocked Rolling Eyes You won't like it at all. SC is built on Smalltalk, which is uncannily similar to Objective-C! Your 'pet-hate'!! Laughing Laughing

SmallTalk is my favourite language of all time.

To say Objective C is anything like smalltalk is crazy talk!

Seeing as how there are a good number of Brits in this thread, anyone know about or planning to go to

http://www.icmc2011.org.uk/

at Huddersfield in August?
Quote:
Individual concert tickets (subject to availability) £10

I've had a paper accepted, so The Missus and I will be making our first tour of the UK. We're planning to take in a cricket match among other things, Lake District, a few days in London at the start and end. Any suggestions?

If you are going to London, you have to set aside a day for the science museum!

Take a look at this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-12953859

The Natural History Museum is also worth a visit, Camden Market at the weekend is a good sight as well.

All the good bits of England are in London, so spend most your time there Wink

Hey, James, the book arrived today, went right to your chapter. Nicely done, a very good mix of software engineering and sound design! I wish I had some students interested in this stuff, because the book would be great for them as well.

Thanks Smile It doesn't say so in the book (IIRC), but I started on the ddwChucklib framework in 2005 and I've been using it ever since, with only bug fixes and minor extensions... so I guess I got something right in it Laughing
