What an ignorant idiot. About as stupid as saying that synthesisers are bad, because they 'take jobs away from "real" musicians' (exactly the argument from the Musicians Union in the early 1980's here in the UK).

Wasn't that drum machines? In more recent times the falling prices on computers and music equipment has killed off a few medium and small sized studios.

You have an Amazon app for the iPhone which will scan the barcode of many products and let you order online. So while you're in the shop, holding a physical object, you can get a cheaper alternative elsewhere. Even in JJJ's noodle-soup of political blurb, there are a couple of valid points. Fact is things are changing. The iStuf is at the forefront of that change - for the moment. He does admit to buying one himself though... Rolling Eyes

I can't say that I am against change though - change is inevitable and one place where I would like some jobs to be lost is in the record and film industries, where some bloated paychecks could rival bankers.

I thought it was drum machines, the DX7 and the Fairlight.

All came to nothing.

yeah -it was the MU that tried to "ban" the synthesizer here in the UK.
The US MU weren't much better - thats why the Barrons were not given a "music composed by" credit on Forbidden Planet but instead a "electronic tonalities by".
Technological innovations have always resulted in economic changes though. (what about the steam driven weaving loom?). Luddites? (smash up ipads?) Unfortunately some people usually do lose their livelihoods..... Sad
