J Scott Franklin, Rock Band of One |
|
|
Hi There,
Wanted to introduce myself. I'm from Cleveland and am playing this Friday at Greenline Cafe in Philly. I've played Doc Watson's in the past, maybe you caught it.
Anyhow, what you hear on the site is recreated live with just myself, guitar, trumpet, loop pedal, percussion and self sung back up vocals. I've toured the U.S. and have done a few Ohio shows with your own Method and Result.
Please come out Friday if you can! _________________ "A rock band of one"-All the Rage Weekly Magazine |

J scott was great at the Green Line Cafe last night! And it was very nice to meet Howard and the gang there. Hopefully we'll get J Scott back in Philly again soon. - Megan |

Yes, it was great meeting you there, Megan too.
I very much enjoyed J Scott's performance. His electronic setup is pretty simple with not too much processing - manly looping. He bulids up some pretty compelling textures using the acoustic guitar. Many of the layered sounds are percussive in nature - caused by tapping and banging on the guitar. The trunpet adds a very nice touch. Since he's looping, it starts to sound not like a trumpet, but a brass section. A few time J would improvise a jazz style solo on tope of a rolling sound texture. Very cool.
J Scott s a poet too and I loved his songs. He reminds me of Bob Dylan from the early 60s - similar to "It's all right, Ma, I'm only bleedin'". The imagery he creates and his words are delivered in a certain rhythmic cadence that goes along with the looping.
If things work out, maybe we can get J Scott Franklin to do a couple of tunes at electro-music 2005. It's not what we normally think of when we use the electro-music term, but then again, what is?
Anyhow. it was great to meet J Scott and Megan, and it was swell music. Here's a picture I snapped with available light during his performance.
