PCBs and UARTs are in, and i can confirm the pricing.

Dave will do a testbuild ASAP, and then we are ready for delivery...

orsm cant wait
so approx $25 USD per board + UART ? nice
will have to build one asap as a high priority
but the others will have to join my stupidly large backlog
as i am trying to concentrate on my first true case with a proper power supply to be completed [its bent twisted and lumpy and taken over a year to sand already, but its getting there slowly. was very nearly a bridge too far Wink ]
my temporary test case is full at the moment Sad so will have to make some room in that for a little while more at least i think.

Hi guys.

This showed up this morning (thanks Matthias). Smile
Build and other docs will be ready next week with any luck. Sorry it can't be earlier, I won't have the time until then.

cheers,
Dave

How did I miss this one!!! If you are still taking orders, put me in for 1 + the UART!

Looks like another awesome project from fONIK and Dave!!!

Hi Matthias...

While going through the BOM you posted earlier I noticed that the ICs shown appear to be from two different families... you have some 74HC chips and then call out a couple 4000 series CMOS (4017 & 4538). Am I assuming correctly that the 74HC's are 5v chips and the other two are higher voltage parts (ie, CD4017, HEF4538 or CD14538?) with max ratings to 18v or something like that?

My other question is about the crystal... I found this clock oscillator http://www.ecsxtal.com/store/pdf/ecs-100x.pdf (DIL14/4, 4MHz, 5v) and am wondering if it's the correct part? The Digikey part # is X942-ND and at Mouser it's # 520-TCF400-X.. Just trying to get ready to buy more stuff....

Hi.

The PCB can use either 74HC4538 and 74HC4017, or regular 4017 and 4538, which the prototypes were tested with. If using a 74HC4538, R5 will need to be 39K, rather than 27K for a 4538. U1 was also tested with a regular 4040 and worked OK. This was done just to give people more options where possible, if they couldn't source a particular part. (I found the 74HC4538 harder to find from my regular suppliers than a regular 4538)

The 74HC237 has no direct CMOS 4xxx equivalent, and I would not be tempted to use a 40106 in place of the HC14, as it is part of a timing-critical circuit. It *may* work, but I haven't tried it - anyway, HC14s are common and cheap enough...........

Most of the circuit runs on +5V, except the opamp out buffers (U9, U10 and U11), so 74HC parts are fine throughout.

The 14-pin DIL Xtal Osc looks like the right one. An 8-pin XTAL osc will also work, as the PCB layout can take either type.

Am working on a build and docs today - stay tuned...... Smile

cheers,
Dave

Hi Guys.

Some domestic problems this end - I've had to put testing the MKII V2 PCB on hold until next week, probably tuesday. Sorry for the hitch. As you all know sometimes s**t happens.....

cheers,
Dave

I'm still not even close to finishing the synth that I hope to sync with this due to "domestic problems" (aka wife) so don't worry about it. I'm sure we all have enough other projects to keep us busy for a few more days.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the clarification on the part numbers. I'd like to say everything would probably be clearer once I see the schematic, but I'd have about a 50/50 chance of lying to you. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I've got most of the parts not in my inventory awaiting order in a Mouser project (what a cool service that is), so whenever the docs are ready I'll commit with $$$.

I hope the domestic issues sort themselves out for you guys shortly... I know how stressful that can be (regardless of the reason) & hope you achieve happy resolutions.

Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hi all.

Testing today....

A quick note- Get 8-pin 4mHz Xtal oscs if you can, the 14-pin ones only just fit on the PCB. They will be fine, but are very close to the IC socket legs for U1 and U3. Sockets are essential for U3 and U2, and recommended for U1 and the others.

A quick peek... it shows the components necessary for testing the basic operation of the circuit. With these components fitted you will get a basic 24PPQN clock, and the other START STOP etc pulses at J5.

Build notes to follow.

cheers,
Dave

I hate to be a PITA, but what is the spec for RN1? Any search I do that includes RN08 that yields a resistor network shows one with 8 pins and 7 resistors... in looking at the PCB and Dave's partially populated photos, I see 9 holes and a 9-pin network on Dave's card. (I see Haje Electronics in the Nederlands shows RN08 networks, but they're 8 pin.... There's got to be a US source, I'm sure....) The quest goes on....

Hi Marv.

It's a 10K 9-pin Commoned resistor network. Pin 1 is the common, which is connected to GND in the M2C circuit. The other 8-pins are the other ends of the resistors. You can make your own RESNET, by inserting 8 x 10K resistors vertically, and joining their "top" leads together. These joined leads connect to pin 1 via the lead of the resistor at the top of pin 2.

The photo shows the bodge-up I made for the beta test of the fonik VCPS (which is the exact same spec as for the M2C.)

eurohm 009103 is one part number.

cheers,
Dave

Phew, that was quick... lemme catch my breath....

Thanks, Dave, it's all very clear now. I like your "bodged" up network, gets the job done is the main thing. Found them at Mouser right off. Thanks for your support, you get my vote. Very Happy Very Happy

i see. sorry for the confusion.

the preliminary BOM you refer to shows the device name RN08, which is an internal label from the CAD software. the package is indeed RN-9.

I just seen Dave's picture and description of the crystal oscillator..
I thought it was a classic 2pin type, but it seems to be something different.
Can someone explain wich kind of crystal is that?
Thanks.
