Help me get this KLEE 100% |
|
|
It took 4 years to get around to assembling this thing, glad I waited. Would have never hacked the wiring!
Most functions are partially working as best I can determine, however there is quite a bit of weirdness afoot. Lots of crossed up weirdness as well making it difficult to figure whats truly happening!
I began with the BRING UP procedure and starting there:
Mode switch is not functioning.
Both modes act as 8x2 with some variance.
In "16x1" both registers cycle as 8x2 and keep any loaded bits active.
Register A LEDs are 1/2 brightness, and NO CV from A outputs.
B register CV outs function, AND CV A is present in A/B outs.
In "8x2" the loaded bits cycle ONCE, and then only a single bit will continue, and ONLY if it is the first step of the register.
Thats as far as I will describe so far, beyond this it will be impossible to determine whats going on.
CV B and A/B are outputting properly, A is not individually,
The gate busses appear to be functioning properly, tho I may be too presumptuous there.
Going to start digging in now. Sorry if this is confusing, as the Klee is so far flung from being straight forward, it is very interesting trying to figure out what the hell is really going on. |

So I swapped the CD4034s, lo and behold the screwy behavior swapped between register A and B. Everything else the same.
At very least I need some new 4034s. But this doesnt seem like ti would be affecting the mode switching.
Deeper I go. |

The 4034s account for a lot of problems actually. You might want to get them fixed first before anything else. _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

After look back at the schematics, yes, it does look that those chips are kind of the heart of the unit.
Oh well, order up some replacements. 2 different brands came with the kit. Even at half mast, this is amazing. |

How did you make out with this? Did you get the chips from sMs, me? Two brands do not make any difference BTW. All should work the same weather from brand A or B.
If you did get them from me, I can supply you with more just to make sure. FREE of course ...
The chips that use to be a problem have not been sourced for a couple years so that is not likely the problem but as Paul said, has been in the past.

Oh yeh, forgot about this. New chips have it right as rain. No biggie. Still maybe a few bugs, that might be features I dont quite get it completely. However I am having so much fun with it that I DONT CARE RIGHT NOW and will figure it out later.
This thing is magic! |

If some of the ten toggles switches that control mode, etc... give "weird" results -- make sure that the switches are not transposed/mislabeled. _________________ -- Kevin

OK good, at least the major stuff is sorted out. Kevin has some very good advice to I know that intermittent switches can drive a person to drink to. One second it loads the correct state and the next it don't ...
If you explain the little nasty bugs, perhaps we can sort things out together if you wish ... we are standing by. Glad your having fun with it though
