There's a bewildering array of free VST stuff out there these days, too much to take in all at once and I was wondering if anyone else had found anything that has become a favourite creative tool.

I'd like to start with the s16 step sequencer, available here from a site called boxsounds.com. It's great - just load in a sample, fiddle about with the control and amazing stuff (usually) comes out. Most recently, I've been using it to create some sweeping, ambient textures, which alternately soothe / make your ears bleed. These have been sampled and will be further edited to form the basis of... something or other.

I'm also liking the freeware from Psychic Modulation, especially the Cubix drumsynth - an amazingly capable little rhythm generator.

Here are some of my favorites:

http://www.linuxdsp.co.uk/

I have many tens of free plugins, both VST and LV2, on my system. There's a lot of good stuff out there written by people who donate their time, and sometimes their own money, because they wanted to make it happen.
