you built four of them and want more? so you are happy with them?
your synth looks great BTW - looks vintage...
and yes, i have PCBs available. _________________

Indeed, they do everything an oscillator should, and track very nicely over a good range of octaves.
I'm in the process of moving, so now is not an ideal time to buy, but I'm definitely in for some more soon! Ideally I'd like another 8, but funds are looking more like I can only stretch to another 4 sets (I may come back for more at a later date).
Also, any plans for Fonik VCAs? |

Low triangle output level on Fonik X-4046 core PCB? |
|
|
Last night I finished building a X-4046 core board (Fonik style) and the saw and triangle waveforms are looking and sounding beauitful. Sawtooth is around 5V p-p, but the triangle is much quieter; less than 2V p-p. Is this normal? Can I simply decrease the value of R4 (currently 1K) to increase the level of the triangle output, or should I be looking at R32 or trying alternatives for IC3 instead (I think I ended up using a uPC324 because I had no TL074s handy?)
Thanks for the boards Fonik - ordering was a breeze, the price was very reasonable and they arrived here in Australia very quickly. Even the PCB layout and the red boards are aesthetically pleasing! I couldn't be happier
On the weekend I'll try out the waveshaper... |

actually not. what 4046 IC are you using?

R4 is nothing but the output impedance resistor according electro notes.
increasing R32 would add gain.
the uPC324 has a wider swong than the TL074, so i don't think this is an issue. _________________

Thanks for your response Fonik,
The 4046 is one of the "good" brands - an NXP HEF4046BP. I have a few spares of those I can try, and some other unrecommended ones (unknown brand 4046B, ST HCF4046BE and TI CD4046BE.) I checked R32, it's definitely 100k. And I did find and use a TL074 so that's not the issue there either.
Tomorrow I'll try a bigger resistor for R32 and let you know how it goes.
Thanks again!
Adrian. |

i just wanted to let you know that i re-ordered a few more of PCBs for this VCO. due to the low order quantity i had to raise the prices.
the PRICES (revised for low quantity re-order)
7.- EUR/10.-USD for the VCO core PCB (saw/tri)
and
5.- EUR/7.-USD for the waveshaper PCB (tri2sin/pulse/PWM)
+ p/p
Deutschland: 1.- EUR/2 PCBs, 1.50 EUR/3+ PCBs
Europe: 2.- EUR/2 PCBs, 4.- EUR/3+ PCBs
Outside Europe: 4.- USD/2 PCBs, 6.- USD/3+ PCBs _________________

it is both, a saw and a triangle core VCO!
tomas henry used a very clever method to combine several outputs of a manipulated CD4046 to form both, a saw and a triangle output.just take a look at the schematics:

Aha, a response! Hey! Another question: Does this VCO have variable sync? According to your panel it doesn't but just wondering if you left it out... since... tri-core oscillators usually have it. (Anyway I'm interested in this VCO for its hardsync everyone is raving about!)
What's the + p/p 1 euros for 2? |

don't forget, this is not a VCO with comparator/integrator core. it uses a PLL as core... anyways, this hardsync is worth it.

all prices are written in the 1st post of this thread, however, the PCBs are currently sold out. nevertheless, i will re-order a new batch soon and announce it herein the sub-forum.
hope this helps. _________________

Keep an eye on this thread over the next month or so , Fonik says "after the ps3100 boards are all parceled up & posted off , he will order another batch of the vco pcb's , register your number of boards required so he can get a rough idea how many to order from the factory

i think i did something wrong with one of my boards.
i desoldered maybe 3 or 4 times the tempco and now the pads are gone, so now on my scope i can see the triangle wave only when i turn the frequency pot at 50% or more, before just flat, the sound is pretty acute on the high high frequencies....i hope i didn't killed all the dogs of the neighborhood with it ...or drive crazy dolphins and bats.... in wich way i could fix this??
just in case, are there some pcbs available?? |

Is it OK to use Mouser # 147-72-104-RC 100n capacitor for VCO and Waveshaper boards?:
