I had to post this, because it's simply brilliant. I've really been slagging off the Monotron, but this video has really changed my opinion and mistrust of this quirky little synth. Enjoy! Cool

Use a noise gate or roll off the treble a bit?

I actually like the hiss! Very Happy

Don't forget that there are also two more Monotrons on their way. Smile

Yeah, I'm excited about both! The delay sounds great and the chromatic feature of the Duo are making it difficult to decide which one to get first.

I picked one up the other day, but my wife is making me wait until Christmas to get it Sad

Honestly, the delay thing is useless in my eyes. I have a bunch of pt2399's sitting here waiting to be used, so I can easily add that to anything. Dual osc is nice though.

The one I got is the original, but I have lots of plans for it Smile

No. I got the original model. I was just saying that the delay thing isn't of much value to me. I can easily add delay myself. The dual vco is a better idea.

Initially I thought the same, but then reassessed the idea, as having a delay pedal as an addition would mean 2 items instead of one, more leads and more batteries. Whereas the delay version is self contained, and would be a great addition to an iPhone or iPod. Idea

Yes, I guess it would depend on your intended use.

If you want portability, then the delay with the input makes it both a synth with delay and an effect processor.

I intend on making it into a more robust piece of studio gear. I figure $50 for the vco, lfo, ms20 filter and ribbon controller is a great start. If I spend $50-$100 more adding stuff to it then I end up with a unique analog synth that is around $100-$150. Not bad considering that most cheap used analog synths start around $300.

Delay arrived today. After an hour of ribbon scraping, the square and triangle (pitch controlling) LFOs of the Delay seem a nice change from the old-saw M1, though I do wish they could control cutoff like the previous one could. I also missed the VCF "peak" control that allowed for so much harmonic saturation.

But in all, I'd say the Delay is fantastic. As with any delay, I felt an instant affinity for the effortless depth it provides. The feedback control quickly goes beyond endless looping into (wonderfully) absurd noise pile-up. I had a great time patching Monotron I into Monotron D. After ten minutes of fine tuning, it's even possible that LFOs may have synced for a brief gasp, M1 thudding and squawking while MD fluttered and chirped.

Ah yess....that 'Achtung' message comes from at least the 60s, when computers were the size of a room full of Vending Machines. Yep--it was in my Dad's office!

As for the Monotron...Is that a video of a whole bunch of monotrons, or can one of them actually have that much polyphony and loop-playback technology? I would need a copy of Ableton running to sync all these loops. Or at least an Electribe.

makes some fun noises though.
