G2 Editor on Tablet?? |
|
|
Has anyone managed to get the G2 Editor to work on a tablet pc?
I've been thinking lately that having a small tablet with the editor running on it would mean I could have full control of my G2 Engine without switching my desktop pc on at all. Another step closer to my computer-less studio dream.
I appreciate that perhaps tablets aren't the best interface for turning the dials etc but the form factor and just that it could be switched on and off when needed would be nice.
Cheers

Patching on a 10" display (or less) is a pain in da ...rear. You need a windows tablet, I heard iRos PD10 not bad. |

The HP touchsmart range seems to be significantly discounted now. I think some models are 'all in one' so might be a good option.
Seems the format is not very ergonomic for general use but I imagine it would be ideal for a dedicated NM patching PC. |

Very nice
I wonder if you could use rear projection and have a couple of knobs (two halves held together with magnets, the sides that touch the front and back of the screen covered in felt) which can slide over the screen. Slide a physical knob over an onscreen knob and just turn to adjust. Each knob would use two of the four tracking points.
Would need a multi-touch aware version of the editor though. |

I would suggest either:
a.) Running VPN or other remote software on a tablet, talking to another computer that runs the editor
b.) getting a touch-screen capable monitor (they are hard to find smaller than 23"). But you can find "multi-touch" (supports gestures, not completely separate finger tracking) for $200-300 US. HP, Dell, and others make them.
c.) If you just need a live interface, and not for patching, running something to translate OSC to MIDI (not necessary, but then you can do this:)
- run TouchOSC on an iPad
- run reacTIVision on a DIY projector/multi-touch surface (http://reactivision.sourceforge.net/).
Maybe the new editor in the works will support OSC or multi-touch controls. One can hope |

Interesting ideas but none of them are screaming out to me.
I like the sound of option B but then that still requires the computer to be on.
I'm beginning to think the solution isn't out there yet. _________________ iP (Ross)

Which new editor in the works are you referring to? Nomad? _________________ Free Tibet. Release the Panchen Lama from prison. Let the Dalai Lama return to his home. |

This one:

And someone else likes the idea of a touch controller (though not for patching):

I have an iPad now, and running TouchOSC to control ableton live. I love the interface. Through that, I can control the G2 also, but it would be so much nicer if the editor can talk OSC...at least for the parameter page so that display info can be updated with names, values, etc. I am thinking of a VST in MAX4Live that would do something similar...but there's no easy way without talking to the G2 via USB, or the editor directly. |

the ibm x61t is an option. some modls have also finger touch,
but only 1 point at the same time. |
