new to the g2 |
|
|
hello,
i am very proud to be a new owner of a g2 engine and happy to
have found this wonderful forum.
i have since years a micro modular, making live experimental stuff,
and got more and more in the modular direction, building recently a
doepfer system, really amazing... as a few days ago i took the chance to
buy , after reading a lot about it, a used g2 engine for a good price,
as the previous owner, very frustrated about many usb connection losses,
wanted to buy other stuff.(indeed very good for me...!)
i must say having had a lot of synths.. jupiter 6, virus etc. i was
how good the sound of the red thing is. it s really an absolute must have....
and fits perfectly in the rest of my studio s environnement.
there are so many fantastic patches here around and it s a joy to hear
them, as i find a lot of them very inspirative.
i am thinking about the expansion card or maybe a second one....
i did not know if it would be a keeper... as many said it s one of the best
va s.... i must agree. |

thank u . i am very happy to be a part of this wonderful community.
it seems that my g2 engine had faulty contacts at the usb ports, as i
moved it, it lost connection immediately. i was a little afraid to have to
resolder the port, no prob of course, but a little bit of contact spray
resolved it and now connection is rock stable. the previous owner told
me that he had upto 16 !! items connected to his usbports.......
the best solution for a good usb transfer is to have a single usb card for
the g2, best wirth nec chips, what i did. now it works flawlessly on my
system xp nlite sp3. |

Welcome to electro-music!
If you're thinking of buying another g2, consider to get a keyboard version, as the g2 panel is fantastic and let's you do everything but patch cords. |

Yes it does.
An unexpanded machine can use 400%, 4 lots of 100%. So in other words you can run two slots that use a 100% in the poly and effects areas or 1 with two voice poly.
With the expansion you can use 4 slots with 100% in the poly and effects areas (800%), or 2 with two voices or 1 with four voices.
In practice I rarely use or need the expansion but I used to worry about running out of voices on some patches, since I put the expansion in it seems to have taken the available power from just enough to way more than enough. It's nice not to worry about it. _________________ iP (Ross)

hi everyone,
i know it's not the good place to ask this question but since ipassenger brought it back ... i ask ... I know the expansion board expand the dsp power but not the polyphony ... i installed the expansion long time ago ... when i turn on my g2 it shows "exp" ... but how come i can't load patches made in the g2x ? it keeps freezing & the dsp power bar shows 130% or so ... i thaught with the expansion you get the same dsp power as the g2x ... thanks to light me up a little |

Sounds like a corrupted patch?. There is no difference (as far as patches go) between expanded G2 and G2X.
Start a new topic and post a patch that is giving trouble so we can check it out. Also, what OS version are you using? |

Hello lambshain - to the electro-music forum and the fantastic world of the Nord Modular G2
Regarding getting the G2 expansion, I agree with Ross (iPassenger). It really depends on how you use your G2. You can get a lot of mileage from an unexpanded G2. But of course, if you start to run into resource limitations, then the expansion will become necessary.
Regarding getting a second G2, I have also thought about doing this. Using one G2 to have four slots of interactive algorithmic sequencers (maybe along with some FX sound processing) driving another G2 with four slots loaded with synth patches would make one hell a virtual modular system Also, since the G2 is no longer in production, a second one as a spare would be a wise decision… _________________ varice Last edited by varice on Tue Dec 06, 2011 6:42 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Thanks. For those who don’t know, it’s an image from the NASA Hubble Heritage site of the Cat's Eye Nebula (officially known as NGC 6543), the afterglow remains of a star that exploded many years ago. I think that it is one of the most beautiful and complex nebula images published so far... _________________ varice |
