've had a lot of fun playing with the WSG. For such a simple circuit (six schmit trigger oscillators and a op-amp based filter) it makes so many sounds that I've already spent three hours just messing with it.

It looks great Kevin. Cool I know what you mean. I can get caught up for hours just playing with my Benjolin, and a bunch of my other widgets, and never compose or record anything. Shocked

This thread keeps me inspired and always come back to it to see whats up.
Soon, the 2012 build pictures !!!

Hey nice one! I built a WSG and the only problem with something like this is "how do you know if it's working right", well now I know, mine's not, it really doesn't sound as good as yours. Now give it back to the kid.

Thank you, fonik.

I think it is all in the approach -- despite Ray's humorous labeling and description of the WSG, it is surprisingly musical. I found, in messing with the WSG, that it has a therapeutic effect -- not unlike a Wooden flute that I acquired last summer. As you heard in the track, the WSG sounds can be kind of hypnotic.

Wow, Kevin, really nice!

I remember when you saw my WSG a couple of years ago, you hadn't heard of them. Now you play the thing like a Stradivarius! Sort of Smile

This has me wondering what you would do with a Cracklebox!

Blimey - that is simply brilliant.

I've heard quite a few WSG offerings and this is on a different planet from any of them. Just lovely. lovely sounds.

Been meaning to re-box my WSG for a while - this inspiration should prompt me to get it done!

Wow... thank you for the nice comments!

Well, I am back at home and the WSG is now in my grand-daughter's hands. Who knows? Maybe someday she will mod it!

Thank you for giving me the little mixer. It really worked out well for this project and who knows where the "guts" of the mixer will end up (I've saved it all).

finally got a camera again, so i made a video of my recent modules.

Recently finished:
MFOS Wall wart supply
X-4046 VCO
Gated Comparator

Audio is not very pretty, it's off the camera's very sensitive mic, so my apologies.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aJhvN3r-CU

Also, made a video of the (forgot about?) tri-negistor noise maker under the 'scope. Noises not for the faint of heart (or dog-earred)

my first real synth case nearing completion
bent and lumpy as promised
still working on the power supply
but the case and support frame is done
started 3 years ago with an hour here and there when i could spare it
more than once i feared it was a bridge too far
but at least i found a good use for all my timber scrap bits and pieces
now i need to start my second to match Rolling Eyes
please note FROGGY there's a bit of a story with him
more than a decade ago he must have hopped into my
workshop and snuggled up in a pile of wood shavings in the corner
found him one day all dried up and perfectly mumified
sat him on top of a cabinet for more than a few years
so he could watch me work
then i started this case and near completion i decided he should be
included so now he rests as part of this creation.
also a short video showing this case and one of my tracks for sound
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs1eOz-bPbE
cheers

wow. it's simply the most beautiful cabinet I seen.

You are the Antoni Gaudí of synth case designs.

thankyou
i have always loved gaudi's work but the carpenters he employed were absolute masters, far better than myself.

steel frame wrapped in plywood covered with scrap bits of timber fitted together in a sort of random fashion, then shaped and then lots and lots and lots of sanding. oh and the support frame is aluminium powder coated white.

It's simple, folks. Just glue a bunch of wood together, and then sand away everything that doesn't look like a ____ (surfboard, unicorn, synth case, etc.)
Wink

DJ, that is a beautiful piece of work! I'm jealous of your woodworking skills, and you've definitely created an original piece of art. Bravo! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of it filled with modules and making noise.

Thanks for sharing.

thanks for all the nice comments guys
matthias its heavier than i can comfortably lift
but then its for my studio and will never leave there
I estimated 250kgs per cabinet when full so i built the support frame to hold 2 cabs in mind plus quite a bit more.
now just another one to match to go underneath this one , 4 straight ones the same size , 2 more support frames and 6 smaller cabs. I will see you in about 20 years i guess.
I should finish just in time to go off to the old folks home Laughing
