Hi folks.

I'm a total newbie to analog world.
So far I have lived in a digital world where everything works via midi but some time ago I decided to dive into the wonderful world of analog.

My goal is to build a modular system. First I thought about buying all I need from Doepfer, but then I discovered MFOS. I'm quite capable of
assembling electronic devices and have the tools for projects like this.

I'd better get to to point before I end up with a novel here.

How can I play my (future) MFOS modular with a midi keyboard? I assume I need a MIDI-to-CV converter and then connect that to the Gate
socket on MFOS. Is that right? Will Single Buss kb controller do the trick with the mentioned MIDI-to-CV?

Cheers.

Hello and welcome.

You are correct, connect the CV and gate outputs from a MIDI to CV interface to the modular. CV usually for the pitch and gate to trigger the envelopes.

You can also use your sequencer to play the interface and your modular. Or you could try something like this....

http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/

this uses an audio interface you might already have to control your modular

PAIA makes a 12v Midi-to-CV DIY module if you want to build one into the system. I've built, but haven't tested one.

I use one of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kenton-Pro-Solo-/110803581210?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Pro_Audio_Synthesisers_CV&hash=item19cc68791a
and it works well.
It outputs CV, Gate and Aux which can be used to output CV from velocity or a mod wheel on the keyboard.
Cheers
Ian
