Playing stuff from deceased musicians

I would like to play Lainhart's stuff on my radio station. I found links on http://www.otownmedia.com/he/earlyworks.htm and other sites, but I don't know what kind of copyright I need to observe. Does anyone know?

But seriously, if he used conventional copyright registration the rights pass to the family or a named holder. I haven't checked the time frames in years and they have changed, but rest assured his stuff is protected for at least a generation.

On the other hand, "creative commons" is increasingly popular and he might have used it on part if not all of his material.

Richard's stuff on Soundcloud is licensed under creative commons: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/

just want to echo what Jez said..

rights and permissions are clearly outlined in the CC agreement under which RL specifically released his tracks on soundcloud.

and MAN! there are hours and hours of great music on his page there...

We've been exchanging emails, the latest of which is to hold off until she does something about the station call signs in the recordings, although generally it's OK with her and a couple of other people Richard worked with.

I told her I'd hold off on using non-CC stuff until she gives the go-ahead.
