Yes, it is certainly AM, but like you say that aspect is not a first order effect. It's good to know these things even if there is no direct application. I don't think very many people would use the G2 as a mastering compressor, but compared to stuff used to master such stuff as The Beatles, it would stand up pretty well. Laughing We've come to the point where it ain't the equipment, it's the music.

I agree with the TS that the compressor doesn't sound very good. It does it's job and that's it. Maybe we're a bit spoiled with all the modules available in the G2 Rolling Eyes could be true in my case..

But maybe it wasn't meant to be used as quality compressor but rather as a simple gain-controller in the form of a compressor. (why is it not placed in the level-section then)

I prefer using an outboard compressor, maybe clavia expected that from most users Smile

If true, then the purpose to me is to have a compressor for creative side-chaining effects and very fine-tuned multiband-compressing, a counterpart for all the things my outboard gear can't do.

This is what I'm thinking. The compressor works well enough for synth purposes, but throw some external audio at it for studio purposes and you'll see what I mean. But yeah, I guess we're a bit spoiled with all the other quality modules in the G2. It would be nice to see a dedicated quality compressor, but I don't see that happening any time soon.

I'm going to have a crack at building my own tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to get mine to sound more to my taste. Here's hoping! Laughing In any case it will be a learning experience...

Maybe also have a look at the section "V2.1 Audio In mastering patch 990318" at http://www.clavia.se/nordmodular/sounds/index.htm
