Transistor Matcher P-N-P Layout (+ etched PCBs for sale)

Using matched transistor pairs in a single IC is cool, but sometimes not cheap or easy to get them fast, that's why we can use a simple circuit for matching single transistors

I've made my own press-n-peel layout for that, using schematics from minimoog manual (I've found it on dragonfly alley, but guys do not offer the p-n-p solution):



it's very easy to assemble, requires no trimming, works for both PNP and NPN transistors





I've added sockets for transistors and screw terminal blocks for fixing the multimeter leads.

I breadboarded this circuit and both sides have an oscillation in the BE voltage, so I don't have anything static to measure. It doesn't seem to matter which way I hook the probes.

I haven't had a chance to troubleshoot very far yet, but if this sounds familiar and there's somewhere I should focus, I'd appreciate any pointers.

One thing that confuses me is having nothing but the probe hooked up to the base of the transistor being measured. Is that correct?

Thank you Ian... I've looked at that at some length and have figured that I can use a 4PDT on-off-on (criss cross the power and the diode) and a DPDT (criss cross the emitters) to work up the entire circuit for both NPN & PNP in a small project box, powered by 9V batteries. Possibly overkill but will save a lot of switching around of parts, or a larger circuit board. I plan to use a trimmer too. Should be fun .
