I find the VCA is really quiet on the ultimate unless the Initial Level is cranked right up (but then you get bleedthrough). Currently to combat this problem, I run all the outs from the envelope to the ins of the VCA to boost it up to do anything worthwhile.. I'm wondering if there's a mod I could do to increase the gain somewhere.. Maybe boost the level of the filter so it has more oomph, or tweak the VCA for more gain from the CV ins..

So basically, I need to know;
1, What do I change to boost the filter?
2, How do I increase sensitivity of the VCA CVs?

Just looking through Ray's pages I can see a few areas where you could get more gain.

Looking at the Ultimate mods pages there are points where you can take the output of the mixer/filter/VCA, this would help identify where the lack of gain is.

From there you can alter the input resistors of the mixer from 200K to 100K to give the mixer a gain of 1 rather than 0.5. In the filter you could alter the value of R155, the to earth part of its input mixer/voltage divider. Finally for the VCA have you seen the Optional Changes box on the webpage? Or alter the ratio of R192 and R193.

I hope this gives you a couple of ways forward- but I also accept I probably know less than you about the inner workings of an Ultimate!!
