Sequential Switch - reset from step gates |
|
|
I have a SS setup as a basic 8 step sequencer. Each step has a gate out jack and a pot.
If I connect a "hand operated" gate maker (a Blacet EG-1 with me pushing the gate button) to the RESET input, I can reset the sequence at any point without problems. I have also checked each of the eight GATE OUT jacks on the SS, and each is spitting out a gate as one would expect. They are all similar in duration and voltage.
Here's the problem:
patch Step #2 gate > Reset = sequence goes 111...
patch Step #3 gate > Reset = sequence goes 121212...
patch Step #4 gate > Reset = sequence goes 121212... (huh?)
patch Step #5 gate > Reset = sequence goes 123412341234...
patch Step #6 gate > Reset = sequence goes 1234512345...
patch Step #7 gate > Reset = sequence goes 123456123456...
patch Step #8 gate > Reset = sequence goes 123456123456... (huh?)
Why would those two (resetting from gate #4 or gate #8 jacks) cause the reset to happen one step early, while every other one works fine? There is no hesitation or 'hickup' on any of the above sequences... they all run smoothly thru the steps listed.
Any ideas greatly appreciated

Are your gates all correct when running without the reset? Sounds like you have two shorts. . . Well at least that would be the easy fix. Do you have a gate bus or anything that might mess with this?
This one is still on my build list but I'll try to help. |

1) Make sure you have a TL072, not an LM358 as the clock processing chip.
2) try a different brand of counter chip. _________________ http://www.cgs.synth.net/ |

This problem is driving me nuts! I finally ripped the entire PCB & pots and jacks out. I built a whole new board (new chips), wired it all up (very carefully) and it does the exact same thing! Arrrg!
It's just wired up as a basic step sequencer with eight pots, plus a gate output jack for each step. The gate output jacks for steps 1, 2, 3, 5, 6 & 7 work as expected. But...
Going Forward:
gate jack 4 outputs gates when 3 & 4 are active
gate jack 8 outputs gates when 7 & 8 are active
Chips are:
ST TL072CN
ST TL074CN (also tried a 324, no change)
RCA CD4516BE
Motorola M14051BCP
I notice that step 3, 4, 7 & 8 all have the same 2's place value in binary (?)
Help!
