Decided to build a FFB Subject description: It is Howard's fault |
|
|
In Kansas City last weekend Howard said, "You REALLY need a Fixed Filter Bank." Well, I have wanted to add one for a long time... Howard finally kind of shamed me into it.
I just ordered more panel aluminum and included the panel for the FFB.
I've decided to build the YuSynth FFB and I think it will be a nice addition to Aries synth. _________________ -- Kevin

A new Yusynth Fixed Filter Bank |
|
|
I finished this just before I left for the electro-music festival and I'm just now posting the pics.
I've felt for years that the Aries needed a Fixed Filter Bank and finally it has one.

Hi Yves,
On your FFB webpage is a photo of the filter module built by Julien where he brings the filter output individually. Is it safe to assume that each of the filter outputs need to be buffered in the same way the combined outputs are?

It should work without buffering but it is more reasonable to buffer them. _________________ Yves |

YuSynth Fixed Filter Bank - design anomaly |
|
|
I have found an anomaly in the YuSynth Fixed Filter Bank design.
Yves' design is inspired by the Moog 914 filter, which is a half-octave filter bank starting from 125Hz in half-octave steps. Thus one of the Moog bandpass filters is labelled 700Hz (should be 707.1 Hz to be more precise).
However, Yves designed a 750 Hz BP filter instead. A check of the component values confirms that this is the centre frequency of Yves' BP filter, it's not just a typo on the filter panel.
This probably explains the slight irregularities in the frequency plots around 700-750Hz in Yves' design document.
Yves' design has C21, C22, C23 and C24 as 24.2 nF, made from 22nF in parallel with 2n2.
Fc can be lowered to around 700Hz by making C21, C22, C23 and C24 = 25.5 nF. This can be simply achieved by changing C21b, C22b, C23b and C24b all from 2n2 to 3n3.
Then the filters will be a true half-octave filter bank. |
