Yesterday, I started wondering if I could plug the USB port on my Blofeld desktop into my laptop and control it with a virtual keyboard. Today, I plugged it in. Open terminal, lsusb... check! Start JACK... nope. But I knew what was missing. cd into /usr/src/linux, add USB audio under ALSA, recompile kernel. Back to JACK, ALSA tab... check! Open jack-keyboard, well, that's under the MIDI tab. Ran a2jmidi_bridge... not quite. Ran j2amidi_bridge, and... check! jack_keyboard out to j2a under MIDI, j2a out to Blofeld in under ALSA. It works.

So any JACK-aware sequencer should more or less work the same way.

And now I have a nice little travel kit, ready to plug into a PA or headphones. Cool

EDIT: Now if I can assign laptop keyboard keys to note values, I could do portable versions of Programmed Hell...
