First, the sound machine; It's got eyes- three of them! Three LDRs that is Razz these control three oscillators, combining then via some NAND gates gives some really nice effects!

I really must implore that anyone starting out tries heterodyning via AND, NAND and XOR gates Smile Forget about gating 4093 oscillators, heterodyning is the key to really interesting sounds! (see attachments for schematics)

Secondly, half this thread also applies to an audio amplifier I whipped up quickly from an optocoupler (see attachments for schematic) I really wanted to hear the wave this circuit was making (it looked great on the scope Wink) but I had no transistors to hand (that I knew the pinout of anyway) but I did have an optocoupler and a sheet of info about it, so I experimented a little bit and within 5 minutes I had a device with sound and vision! Very Happy
I love cobbling together circuits like this Smile

The amplifier will only be good for square waves and the output is a bit quiet and iffy but it works fine as you can hear in the video above Smile

Hey jingle joe, sounds terrific?

any chance you'd have time to post a bit easier to read schematics?
I know, I'm not very good! Crying or Very sad

thanks

I really can't make them easier to read, the bottom one is very simple, the capacitor/resistor/inverting schmitt trigger arrangements are the 3 oscillators, then they are merely combined with some gates. Heterodyning the signal with gates is the key to interesting sounds.

P.S. I'd avoid using an optocoupler as an audio amp, I just wanted to show the ramshackle output amplifier I built for this device Smile
