I'm going crazy over here.

Looking for PCB mounted vertical pots. Long 1/4" shaft.
Like the one in the picture.

All my digging turn up nothing. Mouser, Farnell, Alps, Piher, Vishay etc.

Help?

Simply take an ordinary horizontal potentiometer, turn it 90 degrees around the X axis and bend the pins down.

Thanks for the suggestion. But it's not a route I'd like to take.

The risk that the pins will break are too big. There will only be 3 points holding the pot to the PCB, so turning the knob = stress on the pins. Plus that there is nothing holding it flat to the board. So then I'd have to strap it down with wires and stuff. Which will be a mess.

So I'd rather just have a clean solution with dedicated vertical pots.

Thanks for the tip!

The shaft is too short though...

How about this guy? Looks pretty similar, although with a metal, not plastic shaft. Just a thought.

The Bourns pot looks really promising! I'll have to research them.

These pots that Mark Verbos uses on his Buchla project also looks good - http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_wzpyrmlo3dQ/SnscN55u8eI/AAAAAAAAAK8/5c8Lp26Fzj8/s1600/IMG_1470.JPG

Which I guess are ALPS? But I'd like a full shaft. And I'm still scared that the shafts will be too short. The only ones I can find on ALPS homepage (RK09 model) are 30mm from base to top.

Right now i am in the same dilemma. First I thought the bi p260t pots can make it. But for small quantities they are only available in standard values like 100k or 10k. And that's it. At least they would be longer then the standard dptd switches, what was my first concern.
At the moment I am searching for top mounting pot brackets. Preferred alpha pots because they are widely available here and have a good price/quality ratio. But i can not find any.
Maybe someone has a hint.

Christoph.

Just found this at reichelt.de
you could easily extend the shaft of a vertikal alpha pot, to the required length.
PatrikPosted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

Those BI pots really look promising! Thanks for the tip. A bit scared that the bushing might be a bit too big....
