Hi All,

Don Slepian suggested that I get an Alesis NanoVerb for my SteamSynth. I found one on Ebay for about $50 and modded it for my 5U/MU format.

Looks and sounds great!

Great idea! I think a few of us have a bunch of those little box type things cluttering up shelves, drawers, etc. That's a really nice way to control the clutter!

I've already suggested several times before, doing the same to a Nord Micromodular. Just think what possibilities lie in that!!

Sounds cool! Has anyone popped the cover on that Micromodular bad boy to see how much effort would be? Any pix?

I also bought a Roland SC-7 Sound Canvas and plan to hack it into another SteamSynth module. It'll JUST fit, I think.

Dugernaut - how did you adapt the power for this? I imagine it runs on some weird voltages - I just see wires flying into yours. Do they come from a wallwart or something?

The wall wart was AC. On the unit's PCB, it gets half-wave rectified into a positive and negative supply, then into a 7805 and a 7905 respectively (if I recall the numbers correctly). I just hooked my main PS +/-15vdc into the inputs of these regulators and ground. I also added a small heat sink to one regulator since it now needs to disipate more heat due to the higher input voltages.

I also removed some unnecessary components such as jacks, etc that added bulk and weight - lord knows the SteamSynth already weights a ton.

Dug,

Beautiful work! BTW, ran across some an interesting bit of info: apparently Alesis sell refurished NanoVerbs on their web site
http://alesis.com/nanoverb

This doesn't guarantee they actually have some on hand, but for $50 it's worth a shot.

I've just done the nanoverb hack myself, although I find while it is powered up my ARP filter clone has a 50Hz hum, more evident when self oscillating.. As soon as I remove power from the nano, it is smooth again, it's only that filter that presents this problem though.

Also on a few of the settings (flanger/chorus/rotary) I'm getting zipper noise on the adjustment dial.. I wonder if maybe those 22µF/220µF electro-caps are needed to smooth this?

Maybe I've simply maxed out my PSU, I will look into it..

Any idea how to increase the gain on this? It seems really low compared to the rest of the synth.
