this tune was created using algorithms that I progammed in PureData. PD fed midi messages to renoise synths and drums, and all was recorded live, with no post processing in audacity. Production value here is minimal.. there was a compressor on the master, just to keep things in line, but it was a little too heavy, so there is some funky undesired pumping as different instruments fade in and out.

There are 3 instruments and drums playing. A pad, a harp and a synth bass. All instruments are using the same basic algorithm, with small tweaks (tempo, note-length and octave). The drums are using a probability algorithm. Basically, for each instrument I set a probability that it would sound for each of 8 beats. for instance, there is a high probability that the BD will hit on beat 1, and the snare on beat 3, and low probabilities (but still some chance!) that they'll hit in other places too. This gives it an interesting and constantly changing rhythm, with out really losing the sense of meter.

For this recording, I just hit record.. told PD to GO and then messed around with faders for a few minutes.
