Iv,e allready built a Subcommander but am thinking of building a Sound lab Mini Mark II next. I know I can use it with guitar to some extent but what kind of keyboard do I need to really make the most of one of these?

Got a $500 budget tops for a keyboard. Between the synth and a keyboard the wife might get bent out of shape at the credit card bill

The Sound Lab takes CV/Gate control to trigger it. Ie CV- control voltage, gate- a trigger to fire the envelopes. Look up voltage controlled synths for a bit more back ground but what you need to know here is that it is an older standard- so you will only find it on older keyboards. These tend to be expensive and you are buying another synth just for the keyboard.

My solution would be to buy a modern MIDI controller keyboard such as a Novation, M-audio, Korg Nanokey etc etc. These are keyboards that put out control signals in the form of MIDI and can cost around £100- less and more depending. You then need a MIDI to CV/Gate converter such as one from Kenton- these are £150 upwards but there are numerous kit versions from people like PAIA.

You can use the MIDI keyboard for any modern module or for playing MIDI onto a conputer. And the MIDI to CV/Gate converter will work with any old or new analogue synth.

Sorry if you know some of this already but also ask if you need to know a little more.

Thanks for the tips and no I don't know much about synths other than my Subcommander is the coolest effect I have ever built and I'm hooked. I would defiantly appreciate any beginners web sites anyone might know of that they could pass along.
