Bill Fox's Other Band |
|
|
Calendar Event: June 22, 2012 Known to the electro-music.com community as half of Twyndyllyngs, one third of xeroid entity, and host of a few radio shows, I have other musical projects outside of the realm of EM. One band I'm in is called Pinnacle which plays Progressive Rock.
On Friday, June 22, 2012, at midnight, Pinnacle will play at the NEARfest After-Party. NEARfest Apocalypse (i.e. the last one ever) hosts an after hours party at the Comfort Suites Inn, located at 120 W. Third Street, Bethlehem, PA 18015 (phone: 610-882-9700). The event will be held in the ballroom, is open to all ages, and is free.
Pinnacle's set will include most of the new album A Blueprint for Chaos along with a few vintage Pinnacle tunes and a surprise or two. The album will be available for sale at the gig and at their vendor table at NEARfest proper all weekend.
For those who can't make a physical show of support, never fear! You may listen live to Gagliarchives.
Since late 2006, Pinnacle has been hard at work on the follow-up to their second album, Meld. Between shows at ProgDay and gigs in the northeast, not to mention a couple of shows that could have been deleted scenes from Spinal Tap, Pinnacle toiled away, determined that the next album would be a major refinement of the Pinnacle sound. Songs were written and rewritten, then rearranged. It took over four years to find the ending to one song. Then, in 2010, Pinnacle (Greg Jones - drums, Karl Eisenhart - guitar, and Bill Fox - bass) stumbled across little Matt Francisco living under a bridge, doing impressions of cartoon characters for food. The boys decided to make Matt's dreams come true and let him be lead singer of an obscure Progressive Rock band. (That part is not true, but it's way more interesting than what actually happened.) The addition of a singer/keyboard player led to changes in the material that had already been written and the inclusion of two more songs. Then a balance had to be found between all of the new elements to make the material document the growth of an established band rather than the creation of a new one. All of this further delayed the production of the album. Actual tracking started in October of 2010 and continued at a glacial pace until April of 2012.
And now it's ready at last! A Blueprint for Chaos will be released at Pinnacle's CD Release Party at NEARfest Apocalypse's After-Party.

Pirated! |
|
|
We released the new album last Friday and by Wednesday, I found six sites that have posted files for [illegal] download!
**FUCKIN A, man! We're NOBODIES! And now we'll NEVER make back the money we sank into having the music professionally mastered, the cover art done by a pro (who has done covers for the likes of Keith Emerson), not to mention the actual pressing of the CDs. Sheesh! _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

Congrats on the album release Bill, sorry to hear it's been posted online, that sucks, hopefully there will be enough honest fans who will want to buy the album to show their support, and maybe you'll even get some new ones... _________________ Jez

Congrats on the release, Bill! I'm sorry to hear about the pirating, but don't sweat it. Your fans will want the real deal from the source and they will support you. _________________ There's an invisible radio gnome playing a gong from a flying teapot - don't miss out! |

Ah man that sucks. Wish we could have made it there to see you guys. Don't worry about the downloads...try and look at them as publicity promos. But get your cd's up for sale through whomever you sell thru i.e. CD Baby, Amazon, etc.... _________________ Dave

What about live performances? You can pirate digital files, both audio and video, but you can't pirate an actual, ephemeral-by-nature live performance. That might be a good way to produce revenue for your band. Even if people take clandestine video of your performances and pirate those, they are actually helping you, as people would see it and maybe want to be there in person, which they have to pay for.
You can always turn someone else's disrespect to your advantage. _________________ There's an invisible radio gnome playing a gong from a flying teapot - don't miss out! |

You can always turn someone else's disrespect to your advantage. | What you propose may work for a band that HAS places to play and tours... a LOT. We don't do the band as a full time occupation so your model doesn't work for us. Where I live, there are no venues interested in original music... let alone Progressive Rock. There is NO market for it here. Considering that the pirate sites are mainly concentrated all over Europe where there IS interest in Prog, we won't be touring there any time soon. Good thing this isn't what we do to earn a living. But it would be nice to break even so we could make another album. Golly. If we turned a profit, then we'd be able to put that back into the band and up our game... to the benefit of music lovers. Pirating is ruining the economics of being a musician... unless you WANT to give away music that has no mastering, no artwork, no physical manifestation... Our mastering engineer, artist, and pressing plant all loose work. Our fans have to wait for new music... if it will ever come again. _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------

I may be over reacting but it's so hard to pour blood, sweat, tears, money, and the kitchen sink into somerthing only to have pirates say that they want the blood, sweat, tears, and kitchen sink for free. Well, there's so much music out there that they'll never miss me when I'm gone. I don't plan on going anywhere and will always play music. I will do live shows as often as possible. It's just a matter of will the band be able to afford to release new music or not. It took six years to get back enough money to put out this new album. If it takes another six, I'll be 63! _________________ Bill Fox------------------|\-------------
