Thanks to Muied Lumens... I ordered the new book.
Scratching around the net for kyma educational tools is a tricky task.
But I did enjoy some of KISS 2011, Karla giving a lesson was very handy.

I would like to have a Kyma vst application that could integrate sounds into the DAW with sync... dreaming... maybe..

Anyway thank you for helping, I am glad I found a nice forum !

"MARBOOKS12" is a 20% coupon for SumOfSines during March. My total was $35.99 total after shipping. Can't wait, probably order Revealed! tomorrow.

I suspect that if Kyma does not provide some more sound banks made for 2012, or code a nice GUI that is user friendly (drop down boxes with preset expressions for example) it will die a slow death as there are so many new user friendly options are being developed.
[/i]

i suspect mp3 will never catch on myself , that vst technology will be replaced by 1930's trombone technology and that everything will be superseded by a large bag of air called derek who lives just north of swindon.

Me, too... I came from using Max/MSP which was even worse, for me.

But don't hesitate to send your stack traces and bug reports to SSC. They do look into each and every one.

SSC have just released an update -- 6.84f0 -- that addresses some crash causes, I believe.

Yeah, muied lumens (Rob) told me that yesterday and I installed it - waiting for crash now .... not currently hearing it in my audio stream ... but not at home, so it may just happen to be in a quiet episode.

Home now - no crash yet - must have been soft at the time, that's programmed in for random times.

Not good. Although I think you could get your money back... In that case, probably not much lost then.

Sorry to hear in any case... Crying or Very sad

How about leaving it running without a firewire device connected, having "Silent Device" chosen in the DSP status window?

I'm outputting now through the zoom h2n (USB), had forgotten I could use that one too ... loaded a factory patch now and crossed my fingers.

I get some firewire errors as well... It's very hard to pin that one down, I might do some tests while reorganising my studio later.

Did you get this sorted jan?

If not I have the same 48 thingy connected to mine, maybe I could do a test for you? If you send me the patch (or will any do?) I can see if mine bombs out after a while.

Oh any patch will do ... some seem to do so quicker than others ... but I've no idea what is causing it .. having less trouble it seems with an USB interface it even ran once for like 70 hours on that Shocked

Anyway I think there to be several reliability problems that interact with each other ... in the pacarana as well as in the Kyma software.

Just now it crashed within a day using the USB interface and some factory patch. Firewire bus error this time, but it can be anything sometimes the pacarana wont even listen to its front panel anymore and I have to pull the power plug.

This thing is just unsuitable for how I want to use it - which is I want it to play for some weeks at least on slowly changing sounds .. I don't mind an occasional crash but this is more like crap, and the Symbolic Sound people are very friendly but no matter what I send them they don't find any problem .. so I've given up really.

Hi Jan,

Ok I will set mine going tomorrow morning when I get up and see how long it lasts, I haven't had a crash for ages but I only have it on for a few hours when I rarely use it.

When I was getting loads of firewire problems it was with much earlier versions of the firmware and seemed to be caused by plugging or unplugging other firewire devices.

If Symbolic Sound cannot sort it I bet they will give you a refund.

Cheers

Andy

Here is some test stuff ... 2012-07-15 is a factory patch that regularly crashes on me using the t.c. electronic and a bit less often using a USB interface. I'll zip the samples I used for that one with it, you'll have to point the Multisample module to those to get the same thing that I have.

edit: what i do additionally is that I send OSC messages to that (over ethernet), from one computer I send it note on / off messages and from another I send occasional dice messages to the VCS (to get random fader positions).
