I was waiting for someone to mention that!
I must admit that I don't quite "get" the OP-1 but it's probably an age thing. Seems like a vastly over-priced toy to me.

TE doesn't seem concerned at all about the OP-1 looking like a "toy" and the new accessories (except the cases) accentuating its toy-like appearance even more. In fact, they seem to embrace it, according to this article:
http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/28/3270259/teenage-engineering-op-1-accessories-launch-profile
BTW, I was surprised at the weight of the OP-1 when I received it. It looks like a plastic toy, but the chassis is metal. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

It's quite tough as well, I have been using it for percussive skull training on the dog and it has held up well, which is more than I can say for the dog. |

Yes, but Americans also instantly associate "aluminum" with "aluminum foil".
I think the average person will have a very hard time trying to wrap their leftover barbecue with an OP-1. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

I finally tried the Finger sequencer and the DrumBox. Fun stuff!
Now I'm auditioning various synth presets to find a suitable sound for making drone music with the Tombola sequencer.
Antimon, did you figure out how to start either game (Choplifter or the boxing one)? _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

There's a boxing game? Sure you're not just thinking of the punch effect?
Anyway, the chopper game starts if you push all four buttons to the left of the numbered ones under the screen. Can't say it blew me away, more of a fun crazy thing. _________________ Antimon's Window

Thanks! It worked for me. You're right about the punch effect.
BTW, I'm looking at the latest version of the manual, apparently released today. I was wrong, or perhaps (unintentionally) misled about the OP-1 not having a filter before these updates - there are a couple of synth engines that do have a filter, in addition to the one you mentioned as the "new" one (Nitro), which is an "effect" rather than the filter component of a synth engine. The Punch effect is also a filter. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud

the OP-1 is truly a noiz beast to be feared.
i LOVE this thing.
use it all the time in the studio and perform with it often.
once i picked up an iConn for it then it opened up to all sorts of synch for live noiz performance purposes!!
if you think it's just an overpriced toy...you are completely mistaken... _________________

I just got a used one and I love it
I have only scratched the surface of the sounds this thing can make and I'm really impressed!
Found a great forum here

Finally, I did something with the OP-1. First, I jammed with the Finger sequencer. Then I added a track of basic fake electric piano. I then recorded a track of DNA going through CWO. Track 4 was the Smooth preset through CWO.
I didn't like DNA through CWO as much as I thought I would. Maybe it's just too much distortion (DNA is distorted by nature) going through an excessive effect (CWO). Smooth sounded so much better through CWA to my ears.
Anyway, here's the track, up for a limited time.

Nice track! I haven't decided what to make of DNA and COW really... _________________ Antimon's Window

Thanks! I was going to throw away the initial track of the gorillas playing the DrumBox kit, which unexpectedly added some bass notes and higher pitch material, which probably would have mapped to kick or toms for the bass and cymbal/hi hat for the higher pitches on the sample-based drum kits. However, I figured I'd "finish" the piece I'd started before moving on and erasing everything in Tape.
I think I'd have to work more with both to find places for them in my music. I think I'll be using CWO a lot more, because I love its combination of ring mod/frequency shift/delay. It can supposedly also do flange, chorus, and phase effects but those sounds have not been immediately apparent to me. It's really fun for weird washes of sound.
I like the sonic possibility of DNA but it does not seem to work well with CWO as its effect, or maybe I simply haven't found the right combination of settings. _________________ Current and recent work on Soundcloud
