Wolfgang has a new page for this on Facebook, which he just sent out invitations to like.

I don't have an iPad, but for this sole reason, I would get one!

An update

http://wolfgangpalm.com/?p=595

I did read (elsewhere) that the app has been submitted to Apple for approval in the App store. The link above does not state that.

I played with it or a while last night, I got that new hardware synth felling, just going through the presets, playing it and getting my mind blown.

It has a great sound quality, as good as the AniMoog, but with a ton more parameters to tweak.

Yea it's pretty deep synth. Great sound to it. I have come across some 'oddities' though with its handling of local Midi. Phaedre and Little Midi Machine don't want to work with it. Genome does. StepPolyArp doesn't. I have to see if it is something with my setups. My guess is PPG is not handling virtual midi at all right now. A bug I found is if another music app like Genome is running in the background and you try to tap on the midi session connection in PPG, it minimizes to the background and when you open it again it loads the startup preferences. Also, no email link to report bugs either in the program or at the developer site.....tsk tsk.

For now it makes an awesome standalone synth on iPad. I expect that we'll see some nice development with this app as it matures.

Before you start tutting... check PPG's Facebook page out;

http://www.facebook.com/PPGWavegenerator

That's where Wolfgang is listening to comments and or any bugs etc. Smile

Sorry, I don't have a Facebook account and have no desire to sign up for one. App support should go to - app supprt, not to a page that talks about how great it is but offers no way to contact the developer about bugs without having to sign up on a social networking site.

Yea i probably should get back on KVR...haven't been there in a week or so. ( 9 million posts later.... Shocked )

I figure most issues are going to be ironed out in the next upgrade. It's certainly not like I can't use it....it's a very powerful synth.

I hear that there is already an update in the pipeline that addresses some of the concerns/bugs raised.

Hmmm, I think it's an other case of:

I bought an OP-1 instead of an iPad as a portable, self-contained music making machine because I tend to be more productive with physical buttons and knobs, but now I feel compelled to budget for an iPad just to run the PPG app Smile

To be honest Gov, I chose the iPad over an OP-1 purely because there was so much more I could do with it other than just being able to musically dick around. £700 is a lot to pay out, even though the OP-1 looks fabulous as a piece of design.

Anyway, back to getting on with finishing my 4th LP... which is going fairly well. Hopefully I'll be able one day to play at an electro-music.com festival too? (which of course would be lovely). Very Happy

Doesn´t sound that stupid to me: spending, let´s say 600$ for a dedicated synth module with state-of-the-art wavetable technology and a superb touch UI. That´s iPad, soft, I/O hardware, so to say. Not a bad plan IMHO. I have an iPad 3 and always though I would never need a second one. But now I think about a unit for the studio exclusively. The price-to-usability tag is great I think.

And you can pick up 2 iPad 2's (16 gig, wi-fi only) for the price of one OP-1. Bargain. Very Happy

AND don't forget that if you stick a decent interface on it you can get multiple I/O. (well limited in outs, but not ins Smile )

Action starts at 5mins in.

I picked up an iPad 2 with 32GB from the Apple Canada refurb site for $400.00-ish and an Alesis IO Dock from eBay for around $100.00 or so. I figured I got a bunch of synths and some processors and I can check my email too. How many synths can check your email?

The PPG app is cool, although I'm stupid enough to need a manual. It is a bit buggy but I can put up with that for now.

No desire to derail the thread but one other app I picked up that I'd like to figure out a bit more is csGrain.

Damn,THAT'S a game changer.Might have to relegate the Alesis iODOCK to the dustbin.(actually, probably just use it with the second iPad whenever I get it)
Very cool.

BTW: I also got Wavegenerator.I haven't had time to do anything but demo the presets, and won't for over a week because I'm heading for the mountains again tomorrow, but it sounds pretty nice.Very good for long evolving pads and such.
One question,I have no familiarity at all with the vintage PPG synths.I'd be interested in hearing from someone who owns one as to how closely (if at all) this app mimics any of them.
