One question,I have no familiarity at all with the vintage PPG synths.I'd be interested in hearing from someone who owns one as to how closely (if at all) this app mimics any of them. |
I've got a PPG Wave 2.2 and Waveterm combo. Wavegenerator doesn't really mimic them. It can - but it can also make sounds of a quality not available to the original - and of course, the originals had analog filters, so a character all their own. Still, much of what is in Wavegenerator will be familiar to both Wave and Waveterm owners and you can create a lot of the same sorts of sounds. This is the real deal. It sounds like an obvious descendent of the PPG because that is precisely what it is. |

I agree with Scot. Spot on!
I would actually have been very disappointed if this had just been a clone of the late Wave models and the matching Waveterms. That wouldn't really have been Wolfgang's way of doing things. The PPG Wavegenerator is solid Wolfgang Palm.
BTW, Wolfgang posted the PDF manual:

Cool, I have a "We Can Build You!" as well. Dunno if there is a snippet of it up there or not. All that stuff is basically unmastered..not really mixed either.. just exports from Logic after I had bashed all the takes together.
Ups.. there I got an email from SoundCloud.. there you are.. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Scot, I guess there are PPG all over those pieces I have there, but I reckon it is easiest to spot in "Blinded by Memory". That being said, I usually stay far away from the obvious signature sounds of the Wave. IMO, the actual sound palette of the Wave is far huger than what people think it is. So, what made this so brilliant way back was how adaptable it was to silly ideas. The obvious thing one would want to do is to filter and re-envelope the Wave with an analog modular synth. Hm, IMO the PPG Waves are still brilliant. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
