Subject description: last keys trigger sound of the first key in matrix

I am currently tinkering with this toy:
Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.
Pitch control and some minor other changes are working fine, but unfortunately I kind of "broke" some buttons on the toy.
Those are the keys from 6 to 10 (circled in picture), and curiously they all trigger the sound of the "Aa" key - so the 5 last buttons of the matrix all are identified as the first key of the matrix.
There are no broken connections (I am aware of), so I suspect it has something to do with how the button-matrix is scanned, or a timing-specific thing(?).
Does this behavior ring a bell for someone? Where do I have to look to find and fix the cause?
Should I provide pictures of the inside of the device, with the modifications I did?
I suspect it does not have to do with those mods, as these only affect the sound of the device,
and have nothing to do with the buttons - but I have no real knowledge of the inner workings of such toy Embarassed

Sounds like you may have put a ribbon cable in wonky, I assume there is something like that connecting the key matrix to the main board? Could be any number of other problems though. Such is the risk with circuit bending, you allways run the risk of totally ruining the device especially without knowledge of how it works.
