Okay, here is my selection of chips:
4001 x 5 quad 2-input NOR
4011 x 1 quad 2-input NAND
4013 x 4 dual DFF with set/reset capability
4023 x 4 triple 3-input NAND
4051 x 1 8 channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer
4082 x 2 dual 4-input AND
4093 x 3 quad 2-input NAND Schmitt Trigger
4518 x 5 dual BCD up counter
I am treating this as an opportunity to start a new modular from scratch, using banana jacks, and mounted on 3U rack panels which are ten bucks each from my local surplus. I figure I can fit between four and six modules on each panel.

okay, first module is the 4093: three audio-rate oscillators tuned to hi/med/low frequencies, each with an input for gating, plus an lfo. The lfo is the only one which is always on; the audio-rates have to be gated: there is a logical 1 output on the bottom left for convenience.
Oh, and a crappy mixer / power supply / quarter-inch audio out. The pots aren't even matched, so it's all a bit touchy feely right now; just enough to get myself going. Power comes from an old phone charger wall wart. I managed to melt the socket though, so working from breadboard supply for time being.
Next up, counters!

How is it you have a panel already? I've barely started on my breadboard! |

Hmmm, that weird VCA in challenge_snippet_2.mp3 sounds pretty interesting. I'll put that circuit on my pile of things-to-try.

I've filled out the panel with a VCO-type thing. It's another 4093 quad oscillator with fixed low-value resistors and a CV in to the RC join. This thing filled up fast! mainly because I really ought to be writing a thesis instead of mucking around with cmos circuits... but I'm going to hold off on buying another panel until my school obligations are out of the way. So this is it for now, though maybe I'll post some more sounds in the meantime.
From left to right: 4093 quad gated osc, 4518 dual divider, 2x4001 XOR pseudo-ringmods, 4093 quad vco, 4001 weird VCA, 3-bit resistor ladder, multiples, 4-channel passive mixer, 5v power in, audio out, master volume.
