IPAD and Keyboard midi for live gigs |
 |
|
Hi all,
i 'm a musician and i have an home recording project that i would like to bring it in a live contest.
at home i work with my pc, an m-audio usb external sound card,my keyboard midi and i use Cubase 5 with vst.
Recently i 've buy a new ipad and i would like to use it for replace the Pc.
so now i have :
- an Ipad 3 without jailbreak.
- a midi/usb keyboard (1 midi out).
- an external usb sound card.
Now, what i need and how can i use them?
i see many videos where guys use Camera Connection Kit to connect Keyboard with Ipad.Ok,so i't s the best things?and what CCK works?
5 to 1?Apple version or cheap wersion?
i see also the IRIG MIDI for connect keyboard via MIDI.
what is the better? CCK or IRIG MIDI ? MIDI or USB ? Sound card or not?and what i should use for output in a live contest?
thanks in advance, and sorry for too many questions but i think that these informations are really useful for a new future in live music for Ipad. |

I use an Alesis IO Dock with an iPad 2 and it seems to work fine so far. I decided on the Alesis Dock because I wanted the iPad to function as an integral part of my music equipment, so it needed inputs and outpus and full MIDI.
I will admit 'though that I would not use an iPad for live shows yet. Stuck notes and missing notes are very common. There is a reason why many of the music-related apps have a very easy to get to PANIC button.

Hmm... complaints about iPad MIDI performance are few and far between here at electro-music.com.
I guess nobody here syncs external MIDI sequencers/arps to iPad MIDI sequencer output. _________________ VIRB site |

I'm thinking maybe not very many people here are using the iPad as an integral part of their setup.

Or maybe they're just too busy making music to check the forum.
The Experimental Synth and Create Digital Music websites have plenty of examples of MIDI sequencing using an iPad. But nobody on either site has mentioned anything about MIDI timing issues. Perhaps its because hardly any of those folks sync another MIDI sequencer to the iPad sequencer output. _________________ VIRB site |

My iPad isn't a sequence source. I do use it for real time control, but I can't say it is midi. And in my case if it's expected to be a voice (not usually) it is hooked up to a CCK USB to MIDI which works pretty well.
Curious though. I haven't been paying much attention to iPads as sequence controllers. Is it a problem? _________________ Garret: It's so retro.

thanks for the reply,
this forum doesn't notify your posts
anyway i'm just bought a powered usb hub ,camera connection kit and i've bought
garageband,it sound good and latency is pretty low ( for a tablet)
i don't think is a great substitute of a notebook but for a little use in live (
only a piano and some backing tracks )is quite good.
now i must think to play the click for the drummer,
you think that a jack / RCA cable and 2 panned tracks in GB can do it? |
