Thank you Mr.Yves Subject description: Your website inspiring me to built my first modular |

thanks for you job and your passion Yves!
I've start one month ago, I've built a couple of Monimoog Vcf and a wave folder.
Here some picture made with a cheap phone ahahahahah.
Just one question if some one can help me, is it normal the VCF is so noisy???
I have a kind of ground noise around 100hz @ -27Dbfs it's a bit huge right????
I've don't matched the 47n capcan be this the problem??????

I think is something to do with resonance if i disconnect the pot, or move the trim the noise drop down.
if i calibrate the trim the noise go up..... |

100Hz is probably hum from the PSU, the hum is worst when you turn up the resonance as the circuit consumes more current. Try a better PSU with more current capacity, or try to connect only the VCF to check if the problem goes away. _________________ Sebo

Hi sebo,
thanks for the reply!
I've try to connect only the vcf but the problem persist,
If i connect the wavefolder i don't have this problem so i don't think is that but maybe Im'wrong..........
I'm using the 15v psu from curetronic. |

Do you have the older "open" one or the closed (caged) one ...??
You can't say how many modules exactly can be run with a PSU, it all depends on the Ampere it can deliver and the module takes ..
f.e. (easy explanation) :
there are VCF that take 5 mA and others that take 30 mA
the Yusynth Fixed Filterbank takes 70 mA
the one VCO takes 40 mA another takes up to 100mA
Klee and MPS need ~100 mA each
and so on,
it also makes a bit how much it takes on the -15V-Rail and howmuch on the +15V
normally its both the same, but some modules don't
so it all depends on the modules you build
my curetronic-PSU (which is a Meanwell PSAI 24W +15V -15V) will deliver 800mA on each Rail, so I can server about 10 to 15 modules with it ...
I have 4 of those PSAI, so in total about 3.200 mA for each Rail
For the yusynth-modules I found this xls
http://ebookbrowse.com/currents-yusynth-xls-d102712152
Hope this helps a bit (and hope my explanaitions as non-professional are correct) _________________ greetings from belgium, Sascha

thanks for the reply, very clear!
I have the caged version, T-40C it can delivery 1,5A on +15rail and 0.5A on the -15 rail. (on the website is described is 2A for +15 and 1A for -15 but is not true).
How to know how many A i'm using??
Just take my digital amperometer and put the tip on the DC rail ????
thanks for the reply.
Just to know isn't better to use a big toroidal psu instead of 4 small one????
Just asking beacouse some time i've see inside some hi-end pro equipment (like API SSL and NEVE stuff) and alwis see big oversized toroidal psu

I think that is the best way, else you only can assume how much it is and keep it in mind if any weird things happen after adding a new module ...

I bought the PSAI cause it has same mA on both Rails, plus I might decide (already have decided) to build another cabinet (2nd and 3rd), then I can split them up or ....
I don't know => will see then _________________ greetings from belgium, Sascha
