Hey All-
I just put together a modest Synthesizers.com system that I had been trying to run it with Silent way, but was never satisfied with the feel. So I broke down and now I'm using the G2 to control it through midi.
After getting a chance to mess with it, I thought it was time for an experiment. I patched both synths identically and tried to get the filters into approximate positions. The VCOs are all at full.
I dont think I'm ever using the G2 for bass again.

There is a significant problem with the G2 patch pictured above. The G2 oscillator modules are free running and have no fixed phase relationship between the waveforms. This can result in this patch sounding different each time it is loaded or edited (reset or recalculated). A possible worse case scenario for example would be if the sine wave happened to be 180 degrees out of phase with triangle wave. The mix of these two waves would have the fundamental frequency mostly canceled out, resulting in a very weak and thin sound. This problem is discussed in my reply to this thread:

I don’t know about the Dotcom VCO, but many multi-waveform analog VCO designs have a fixed phase relationship between each waveform. You cannot emulate them in the G2 by simply adding a bunch of separate free running oscillator modules in the patch. You also have to provide a means to fix the phase relationship of each waveform. I patched a G2 building block to emulate the multi-waveform VCO CEM IC used in many analog synths like the Prophet-5 rev3, Moog Memorymoog, etc:

To avoid any phase problem, I would recommend that you repeat the comparison tests using a single waveform instead of a mix. Or, if you want, maybe try a simple two sawtooth detuned mix making sure to detune the oscillators in the Dotcom and the G2 the same. _________________ varice |

hello Baby,
Interesting comparison, thank you for the patches.
There are so different, I'm sure one can achieve closer settings. That's what I tried with the help of this community when trying to compare ATC1 and G2, and now, they are really close, for my ears.
Anyway I'll always be interested in comparisons like this one, and even with easier patches (just a square wave without any modulation, for example).
