ALESIS MICRON PATCH EDITOR!!! |
 |
|
I got a Micron a few days ago. It's a nice instrument but editing sounds is a huge pain in the tuchus. In fact, it's the worst I've ever seen.
So I did some searching for PC resident Micron patch editors. The editor Korg provides for the Microkorg is superb, and I was hoping for something comparable.
There is a free one for Mac, but I have a PC. There are several commercial versions but one seems poorly supported (possibly orphaned) and another is becoming a legend for poor documentation and, therefore, difficult operation. The most popular one tries to look like a big modular panel covered with knobs, which are difficult to operate with a mouse. I'd prefer a more computer-friendly interface.
I FOUND ONE!
Miniak Patch Editor works great and I love the interface.
(For those who don't know, the Miniak has the same guts as the Micron and they can use each others' editors.)
And it only cost 2.5 Euros/ $3.38 US!!! NOT a typo!!! $3.38!!!

I'm not affiliated with the site, I just want to share a bargain with any other Micron or Miniak users. It might work on the Alesis Ion, too. Same guts, once again.
This editor does NOT have sequencer control like the highest priced editor does. But I avoid sequencing. I just need a front panel for creating new sounds. And this editor fills the bill.
I love both my editors. They are great teachers for how to make the sounds you want. It's like reverse engineering. I find a sound I like, bring it up in the editor and see what the settings are. By tweaking the settings in the editor I find out what does what. It's a lot more fun than reading a dry textbook on sound synthesis. _________________ AEJOTZ is pronounced "A-Jotz"
