hi there! i'm searching for someone with experience with a star synare3 (clone).

i bought the pcb kit from helensson (http://www.helensson.com/synare-3-kit.html), i assembled everything as given in the manual, but all i get is a drone sound when i turn the filter resonance full up (i already contacted helensson but did not get a reply yet).

the kit is a bit suboptimal, the routing of some traces is really wild (they jump bottom to top and back, where a re-routing would have avoided this) and the spacing of the transistor soldering holes is really really tight, i had to measure them for short circuit just to be sure everything is ok.

i looked at the schematic from clacktronics, my kit seems a bit different (i dont have a schematic for the kit, but some resistors seem to be added and some routings are a bit different).

i tried testing the several parts with the service manual, the audio signal seems to be available at the OTA filter, also the envelope generators are triggered when i hit the piezo disc, it seems like the final amplifier OTA doesnt do as it should.

ofc i double checked all components for polarity and checked the values.

i've trying to get this working since some days, and normally its not my style to ask for help, but if anybody has an idea what could be wrong i would really appreciate it.

Do you have some more OTAs to try? There have been many reports of fake/non-working/DOA CA3080 chips lately...

ah thank you, i haven't looked into that. i just ordered some to try that at banzaimusic.

indeed my OTA's look a bit funny, they don't have the typical black colour but indeed look a bit like they were polished and relabeled.

since all other parts of the kit are noname-chinese parts it may be well faked 3080's.
