I suppose nobody expects a G3 anymore... but

What could this be? another organ?

I don't think it's a photo of a new instrument. Looks exactly like a Nord Electro 3.

You're right Tim. After matching the picture with the new models it seems to be the Nord Electro 4 SW73.

No new synth then Sad

I gave up hope of a G3 a few years ago (although I still like my G2, so...). I'm hoping Korg release a mini analog MS-20, as they are rumored to:

This looks like the USB device from the Korg legacy collection, but some things are different (screw placement etc) so although it may be a Photoshop job, it might be real. This year is Korg's 50th anniversary and the MS-20 is still their most famous synth, so maybe...maybe...

I have never understood why Clavia did not release something like that, with 1 or 2 DSP chips instead of 4. I loved my Micromod (and might by one again someday), and later bought a NM1 before getting the G2. The relatively high cost of the G2 was the only reason I waited. If there had been a desktop module like this I would have bought several years earlier. The engine with no controls at all was a bizarre and foolish decision.

Edit: Frankly, if they brought out something like that I might buy one now. Maybe even two! I don't often use all four processors or rely heavily on large polyphony counts on the G2.

Despite having them racks I use the demo mostly Shocked

Interesting stuff goes into one of the 12 slots tho, or when I need a vocoder or something.

And indeed ... the NM is still very up-to-date .. the same thing with just larger delay lines and maybe some modules to make working with those easier ... and maybe a couple of knobs .. Exclamation

Weirdo Wink

It is good to have the 4 slots available - eg a drum machine, a synth part, some MIDI sequencer thing and an audio in/FX patch, for example. I knew you had several G2s, but I'm surprised they're all engines - when the G1 was current didn't you have something like 2 racks and 1 key? I was jealous of so many knobs Smile

Is that your same apartment? It looks familiar, but the last time I saw you was 2002 or something!

And it's true!! Very Happy

Seems like this will be available next month for 600 Euro/$800. I know it's off-topic for this forum, but I am looking forward to getting one of these and connecting to the G2 via MIDI/the pitch follower for CV/using the MS-20 oscillators and filters.

Yep, I think it's gonna be tons of fun to drive the MS-20 MIDI via G2X MIDI Out->MS-20 Mini MIDI In, with the G2X running sequences.

If I also get the Moog Sub Phatty I guess I'll need some kind of MIDI splitter box since there's no MIDI Thru on the Sub Phatty and only one MIDI jack on the MS-20 Mini (the IN).

Two keys, still 'have' them but one now is loaned to someone on a permanent basis.

Oh you're right, I'm thinking of Rob Hordijk's place. That was a fun weekend - you, Rob, Wout and Roland! I'm feeling nostalgic for NL now because the first time I touched an MS-20 was at my friend Joris's house in Delft Embarassed

<bitter sarcasm> I would be surprised if Clavia didn't release a G3 desktop model with 16 knobs / 8 LCDs... </bitter sarcasm>

Lead 4, Wave 2 or Modular G3?! I would sell my G2 right now to get a good price if it were the last one, but how to know? aargh!

If Clavia realizes how much the analogs synths are rising again, perhaps they will come with a G3 capable of interacting with them (ie. some CV outs).

Even Akai has released a keyboard controller with CV out, and now Korg with the MS-20.

What, dreaming is free!

I dunno. I have one and am very happy with it. And thinking about it, the price of the G2 Engine at £400 (new in 2006) was a steal. All that power in a plain box could have been an attempt to hit a price point, and also a decision/realization that if you have a rack synth buried in your gig rack, how are you going to control it? Due to space constraints in the places where we gig, mine is usually out of reach.

All the real time tweaking at gigs of my G2 is done via either my Roland FC300 foot/switch board or my Novation Remote 61. So I have never been frustrated by the "modest" UI of the G2 Engine.

"We haven't forgotten our synthesizer roots"

Oh yes you have Shocked

However, if you want to rediscover them, I'll be very happy.
