Lovely bike ride, Rob!

Thanks Dale and Stefan. I really enjoy both the snow and my new bike. It has been years since I had a bike, strangely enough... It is a great feeling to be flying on land again. Smile

Last night, in pitch dark, I heard something outside and went to investigate with a flashlight, but didn't see it/them despite being as close as perhaps 10-20m, judging from the sound - the forest is too dense where the were. Eventually they discovered me an fled.

And today, 30 minutes ago, I spotted three of them from my living room window. There's a huge cow, a calf and a cow which is almost fully grown. I managed to get a snapshot of one of them. Unfortunately the picture isn't very good; I fumbled with my camera, there was not much light and the lens was a bit short, so I had to magnify and process it:

When I say the cow was huge, I mean it - here's a picture of it's footprint next to my size 45 slippers:

Looks pretty good to me. Cool! The most I get to see are foxes, which are apparently on the increase in recent years. A bear is always a remote possibility on the nearby ridges.

What part of the world is this?

Thanks for posting.

Here's a Google Maps link, centerd on where the depicted moose was.

The local fox population is dwindling due to too much timber being taken out around where I live. While sad in itself, at least my cats are safer - one of them got a fox bite in his jaw this fall. Or perhaps I should say the foxes are safer, as the cats actually do chase them away, being oh so pleased with themselves Smile

Thanks, Rob Very Happy It's the first time I had a serious excuse to break out the tripod in some time. The shadows, the point reflections, lots of things just really fell into place. There has been very little snow here this year, so the timing of the full moon was perfect. I finally stopped when my hands became too numb to work. Two days later, most of that snow is gone.

Thanks, Howard! Good to see you on the Forum Very Happy

Here are three from last Saturday's cross-country skiing adventure on a ridge that is 5 minutes from my house. This is the first time we have had decent conditions for cross-country skiing around here in about 2 years, so I took advantage for 2.5 hours last Saturday. More photos posted over here. I love it love

EDIT: Fixed rotated tree re-posted below.

Not sure how to rotate that last one! It was OK inside the Adobe Bridge.

Nice pics!

The image seems meta rotated ... opened in the exif viewer it is shown correctly, but the browser's own viewer doesn't see that apparently.
