Turning a modular polyphonic |
 |
|
Hi,
I want to be able to use a midi keyboard to play chords on my modular, essentially making it psuedo-polyphonic. Does anyone know of any DIY solutions to be able to do this? Basically I just need to split midi notes so one midi note corresponds to a single CV out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! |

| Brillant, this looks good! I managed to find the MCP on the microchip.com site, however there is a minimum order of 5. |

Good to know. I'll have to make a group buy then. |

There is also Paul Maddox's 'PolyDAC'. It is a mature design, that was once a commercial product.
Original design here:
http://www.vacoloco.net/synths/polydac/
(note the link to Elby Designs on Paul's site is out of date)
PCBs and kits here:
http://www.elby-designs.com/contents/en-us/p92.html
The boards are good quality, an most of the info is on site.
I've built the board but not finished the panel yet. Build wasn't hard. _________________ Mike |

Happy to see that someone built the simpler version.
May I ask If it's good? I see there is no trimmers, it's the first midi2cv with no trimmers.
This is why I ask.
BTW about the MCP chips...
I ordered samples from the company it self including the pic 16F88 chips.
4 x MCP and 2 x 16F88, cost me only 7.5$ for all chips
They arrived very quick. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/mgmtrance |

Hello. When i said simpler version, i didn't mean the lite, i meant the midi 628 from marc. It uses 16f628 and dacs 0830/1/2. And i'm still on it, troubleshoting the last part in the DACs/OPAs section.
That's nice, i thought about ordering the MCPs but i didn't think of ordering the 16f88, they're expensive here, so i'll order them like you did. |

Sorry to contribute to the off topic, but the light ACX midi to CV was one of my first digital projects I built. I think it's great. You don't need a trimmer as long as your +5V reference is stable for the DAC, which is pre-trimmed internally. The only problem is that it doesn't have a full 5v range, so my keyboard just sort of stops producing new notes at the end.
I'm very happy with mine, you can build one on protoboard easily. And if you don't have a pic burner, buying a cheap one online is still much cheaper than getting a commercial midi to cv. |

So how many octaves do you reach? 4 and a half or something? |
