I recently acquired an Ensoniq SQ80 that was in pretty good condition other than a low battery. I replaced the battery myself and although I thought I took static precautions, the synth now does nothing when any button or key is pressed and just looks like this after power on:

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

I tried a hard reset but it didn't seem to help (assuming I did it right). Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance.

Have you looked at this site for advice on reinitialising the SQ-80?

I'd try a soft reset first. The hard reset looks more nervous making.

Hi EdisonRex, thanks for the reply. The solution turned out to be painfully obvious after I read through Rainer Buchty's SQ80 service manual. On closer inspection, fuses F3 and F4 on the display board were blown, which as he notes can be caused by an improper connection in the keyboard cable. I replaced those and triple-checked all connections and now everything works fine again.

It really does pay to RTFM... Hope this helps someone else.
